Job Context Information:

Strategic Communications is a team within the Mission Advancement unit responsible for planning and implementing effective and integrated communications, publications, public relations, marketing and digital media strategies for the churchwide expression of the ELCA.

Job Purpose:

The Communications Manager designs and implements marketing plans for churchwide ministries and programs, manages projects and communications activities, monitors effectiveness of plans, and makes improvements based on analytics and data. The manager supervises the work of vendors (designers, writers, etc.) involved in marketing activities. This marketing manager’s portfolio includes programmatic and fundraising communications to support the Global Mission unit, as well as other churchwide programs and initiatives, including the ELCA Fund for Leaders (a seminary scholarship program) and donor stewardship communications.

Job Responsibilities:

1. Create and manage the concept formulation, design and production of marketing collateral, direct mail campaigns, e-marketing campaigns, website content and multimedia presentations to support marketing campaigns.

2. Develop communications plans for ELCA Fund for Leaders and Global Mission unit in order to build awareness, support and increased engagement from members and leaders. Manage brand and consistent look-and-feel for these programs; oversee implementation of ELCA brand guidelines and assist colleagues with use.

3. Work collaboratively with Senior Manager and Director for Communications and Marketing and other executives to implement churchwide communications efforts in print, digital, and social media.

4. Conduct regular analysis to measure performance of marketing activities and make recommendations for improvement based on data and market insights.

5. Performs other duties as assigned.

Travel:

5-10% for churchwide events, meetings and continued education/conferences.

Physical Effort:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear, use hands and fingers to operate a computer and telephone. Experience and Skills:

1. Proven background developing and managing the execution of large-scale integrated marketing programs and experience working with multiple vendors - print, online, design, creative, writing.

2. Ability to assist in developing strategies for marketing the ELCA’s offers to the public and members while analyzing external marketing trends and establishing metrics based on market research and response metrics.

3. Ability to create large volumes of collateral content with minimal direction and guidance required under tight deadlines and in a fast-paced environment.

4. Strong verbal and written communications skills to be able to plan and strategize with program leaders and churchwide executives.

5. Ability to work both independently and within a team environment. Very organized and able to manage projects from conception through completion.

Required certifications or licenses:

Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communication or Public Relations or related field and minimum of four years of marketing communications experience, preferably in nonprofit sector.
