Summary:

The Communications Manager is a strategic, creative leader responsible for advancing Greater Minneapolis Crisis Nursery’s communications strategy with donors, volunteers and potential participating families. This role blends storytelling, campaign execution, donor engagement, and brand stewardship to deepen donor relationships and grow revenue through compelling, consistent, and emotionally resonant messaging across multiple platforms.  

Primary Responsibilities: 

1. Fundraising Communications Strategy & Execution

  • Develop and implement an integrated annual fundraising and communications plan to support donor acquisition, retention, and growth.
  • Lead strategy and execution of all donor-facing communications, including direct mail, email appeals, stewardship and impact reports, annual reports, and acknowledgment letters.
  • Ensure compelling, mission-aligned messaging across all donor segments and communication channels.
  • Support team members with audience-specific copy and content creation.
  • Manage and grow the annual and monthly giving program through targeted communications and relationship-building strategies.

2. Campaign Management & Content Development

  • Plan and manage all aspects of direct mail campaigns, including audience segmentation, messaging, design coordination, production, and performance analysis.
  • Create emotionally resonant stories that highlight donor impact and the organization's mission.
  • Manage content creation for digital fundraising initiatives, including storytelling-based email sequences, social media campaigns, and online giving platforms.
  • Support donor engagement and fundraising events with storytelling content, design assets, and promotional messaging.
  • Assist with content and visuals for event invitations, programs, scripts, and donor recognition.

3. Content Creation for Key Audiences

  • Develop compelling, inclusive content for a range of audiences, including donors, volunteers, program participants, and the public.
  • Produce donor spotlights, participant testimonials, program updates, and volunteer features.
  • Create and manage editorial calendars to ensure timely, mission-aligned content delivery across channels.

4. Website & Digital Engagement

  • Maintain and update the organization’s website with fresh fundraising content, impact stories, and campaign landing pages.
  • Design and manage user-friendly donation forms and digital engagement tools.
  • Lead digital strategy for social media platforms and analyze engagement metrics to refine content.

5. Creative Collateral & Brand Management

  • Uphold and evolve the organization’s brand standards in all external communications.
  • Design and produce visual assets for print and digital use, including flyers, brochures, social media graphics, event materials, and donor communications using tools like Adobe Creative Suite.  Review and approve materials created by staff, vendors, and partners to ensure alignment with brand guidelines.

6. Media and Public Relations

  • Write and distribute press releases and media advisories to promote organizational updates and events.
  • Serve as liaison for media contacts and develop strategies to increase positive public exposure.

7. Internal Collaboration & Project Management

  • Work closely with development, program, and leadership staff to gather stories, data, and key messaging inputs.
  • Lead regular planning and content review meetings to align communication activities with organizational goals.
  • Manage communications timelines and projects to ensure timely delivery of materials and campaigns.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, or related field, or comparable experience.  

Experience: 

  • 2-3 years of experience in professional fundraising; direct mail and individual fundraising proficiencies preferred.
  • Strong project management experience with ability to prioritize multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Experience managing website and social media.
  • Familiarity in working in a setting that provides trauma informed care, preferred.

Skills:

  • Excellent communication and writing skills.
  • Demonstrates high emotional intelligence (EQ) by effectively navigating interactions with individuals from diverse backgrounds, showing empathy, understanding, and respect for varying perspectives, and adapting communication styles to foster positive relationships and collaborative environments.
  • Strong computer skills, including demonstrated experience with donor database software, Microsoft Office 365, Canva, and/or Adobe Design.
  • Understanding of electronic marketing and fundraising tools such as Constant Contact, online donation pages, GiveMN.
  • Skills with donor database software; knowledge of Raiser’s Edge software preferred but not required.

Salary Range:

$75,000.00 To $85,000.00 Annually.
