Under the direction of the Senior Vice President of Development & Communications, direct various public relations and communication strategies and initiatives for the organization. This person will share supervisory responsibility for the Development & Communications Coordinator.

  1. In partnership with the Senior Vice President of Development & Communications, manage crisis communications and create a strategy to build awareness of Pathfinders and enhance the brand, mission, services and issue platform (sexual exploitation and trafficking, LGBTQ+, homelessness and housing instability, systems inequality, etc.) in the greater Milwaukee community, statewide and nationally.
  2. Develop, plan, conduct and monitor all aspects of Pathfinders' storytelling and communication strategies. Create proactive opportunities and key messages in each area of expertise for lead program staff. Prep staff for interviews, Symposia, etc. Ensure consistent messaging throughout. 
  3. Serve as a lead writer and editor for collateral like the Annual Report, eNewsletter, general brochures, position papers, CEO Communications, community engagement, volunteer and in-kind opportunities, donor stewardship and other philanthropic communications. 
  4. Set and execute strategy for Pathfinders' website and social media channels. Oversee all content creation, including photo and video asset development, and functionality therein. 
  5. Cultivate and steward relationships with all relevant stakeholders, such as media, elected officials, partner organizations, etc. Manage all applicable vendor relationships, including, but not limited to, photographers, videographers, designers and printers, and budget. 
  6. With the entire Development & Communications team, contribute to and execute the annual Development & Communications plan and achieve corresponding goals. 
  7. Act as a spokesperson at public speaking events, including, but not limited to, United Way events, third-party events, informational talks, media interviews, etc. 
  8. Share supervisory responsibility for the Development & Communications Coordinator and maintain responsiblity for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of those staff. 
  9. Perform other duties as assigned. 
  • Requires education generally equivalent to a Bachelor's Degree with an emphasis in public relations, journalism, or communications.
  • Minimum of five-seven years of experience in media relations, marketing, communications, or public relations.
  • Experience interacting with diverse groups, including corporate and philanthropic groups, volunteers, and clients.
  • Must possess excellent written and verbal communications skills.
  • Requires strong project management skills.
  • Good understanding of the organization's overall business and its objectives and financial/budgeting issues.
  • Must have advanced experience and working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Access, Excel, Publisher, PowerPoint, and other programs.
