Facilities Planning & Management (FP&M) is a full-spectrum service organization that builds, maintains, and operates the physical environment of UW-Madison in support of the university's education, research, and outreach activities. We are responsible for everything from the building projects that change the face of campus to the flowers that beautify the grounds.

As one of UW-Madison's largest and most diverse divisions, our employees span all six university supported languages and shifts around the clock on campus. FP&M staff work behind the scenes to coordinate campus planning, manage design and construction, maintain and operate buildings and grounds, supply utility services, ensure health and safety, and provide parking and transportation services.

As the Communications Manager, you'll work with a highly collaborative team to keep our stakeholders engaged and informed. We're looking for a communicator who:

  • will be passionate about telling the story of the projects, places, and most of all, people, that are FP&M.
  • will be an effective liaison who builds and maintains effective relationships with a wide variety of colleagues, partners, and members of the media.
  • is experienced in planning, executing and evaluating compelling content for a variety of media.
  • can balance attention to detail with keeping the larger picture in mind while managing competing demands and interests.

With a slate of diverse projects ready for your leadership, each day in this position looks different. But, whether you're writing stories, editing talking points, talking to the media, you'll be part of shaping how UW-Madison communicates about its 939 acres.

Required:

  1. Minimum 3 years of experience in journalism, strategic communications (media relations, marketing communications, public relations, etc.), or closely related professional communication role.
  2. Exceptional written and oral communication skills.
  3. Proven ability to serve as an effective liaison with a variety of stakeholders.

Preferred:

  1. Background in crisis communications or experience communicating with the press and other media. 
  2. Demonstrated skills in writing for a variety of media (print, digital, video) and audiences. 
  3. Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) or Google equivalent (Docs, Sheets), as well as Adobe Creative Suite design tools (InDesign, Illustrator and/or Photoshop).

Minimum Annual Salary: $65,000

The starting salary for the position is $65,000 but is negotiable based on experience and qualifications.
