As a communications specialist, you will work closely with engineers, scientists, and other communications specialists on external, internal, and marketing communications, including preparing proposals and marketing materials.

Your work will include developing content for Barr.com, social media channels, the intranet and other communications channels; developing and editing communications policy documents, style guides and training materials; conducting research to support public relations initiatives; creating and updating marketing materials; helping develop strategies for proposals and opportunity pursuits; writing, editing, and designing persuasive proposals and presentations; and assisting with collection and analysis of proposals and other data.

You’ll develop communications in a range of formats, including articles, social media content, graphics, PowerPoint presentations and videos.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • B.A. degree in English, communications, marketing, or related field 
  • Excellent written communication, editing, and proofreading skills 
  • Attentiveness to details and deadlines 
  • Working knowledge of graphic design and document design principles 
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively 
  • Proficiency with MS Word, PowerPoint and Excel software 
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in a communications position, preferably communicating technical information to a non-technical audience 
  • Knowledge of InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat, and/or MS Project software 
  • Advanced document design and graphic design skills 
  • Technical editing experience 
  • Photography experience
