This is a professional level position working under general supervision of the Communications Director appointed by the Attorney General. This position will work closely with the Attorney General, Deputy Attorney General, Chief of Staff, Senior Counsel, Communications Director, Government Affairs Director, Office of the Attorney General Executive Staff Assistant, and the Constituent Services Specialist. The position will be responsible for DOJ communications projects such as planning and coordinating media events, managing DOJ social media, writing and editing external materials, creating informational materials for programs covering diverse and complex subject matter for multiple audiences and stakeholders.

In addition, the position will assist the Government Affairs Director with fulfilling requests for information from state legislators, non-partisan legislative service agencies, stakeholder organizations, and the public. This position has contact with statewide elected leaders, legislators, division administrators, other state agencies, local officials, community leaders, and media.

Position Summary:

In addition, the position will assist the Government Affairs Director with fulfilling requests for information from state legislators, non-partisan legislative service agencies, stakeholder organizations, and the public.  This position has contact with statewide elected leaders, legislators, division administrators, other state agencies, local officials, community leaders, and media.

This position may be eligible to work remotely up to 40% as part of a hybrid schedule, following an initial training period. Travel to the headquarters is not eligible for travel reimbursement. High speed internet access is required to meet the needs of remote work. Occasional in-state travel will be required. Must be eligible to drive when required for travel.

Minimally qualified applicants must have education, training and/or experience in the following:

  • Creating informational pieces for internal and external audiences (i.e. fact sheets, press releases, web sites, social media content, and/or correspondence).
  • Working with program experts to research and write customer focused materials. 
  • Developing web content using Microsoft Office Suite, graphic design tools and presentation tools such as SharePoint, Google Analytics, Adobe, etc.
  • Responding to inquiries and requests from members of the public, customers, policy experts, and/or elected officials.

In addition to the minimum qualifications, a well-qualified applicant will have education, training, and/or experience in the following:

  • Leading/managing the development and implementation of communication plans for an organization. 
  • Directing the social media programs for either an entire organization or part of an organization. 
  • Working with high level stakeholders such as an appointed or elected official, CEOs, Communication Directors, Executive Directors, etc. 
  • Working with members of the media.

The Communications Specialist - Senior position is in pay schedule 07 and pay range 04. The starting pay will be between $27.00 - $34.00/hour.Pay for current or former state employees will follow the provisions found in the State of Wisconsin Compensation Plan. A 12-month probationary period may be required.
