The person hired for the position of communications specialist will have responsibility for, but will not be limited to the following:

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Leads the development of marketing and communications materials for 3M global corporate and targeted audience segments, including: all levels of 3M leaders and employees, non-3M workers, customers, vendors and external audiences.
  • Leads and organizes marketing communication activities including: target audience research, designing/executing creative cross-media tactics (e.g.: web, video, blogs, virtual events, events/campaigns), and managing the program brand.
  • Builds communication strategies including goals, stakeholder analysis, target audience segmentation, program branding, and communication tactics.
  • Develops consistent global Business Transformation communication guidelines. Collaborates and consults with Global, Business and Corporate communications teams to align messaging with 3M Business Transformation objectives.
  • Implements marketing and communication plans that support achievement of Business Transformation goals and strategic direction. This includes development of 3M executive messaging/presentations, broad 3M employee and program team communications that concisely and compellingly address new and complex business and organizational needs.
  • Partners cross-functionally with colleagues (including Corporate Marketing, Public Relations, global Communications teams and select agencies) to ensure alignment of program communication execution. Recommends and manages project plans with external agency/vendor partners for delivery of select marketing or communication tactics.
  • Manages annual marketing and communications budget; recommends resource reallocations to meet communication objectives. Ensures production of deliverables consistent with marketing and communication strategy and plan, with significant measurable impact on the organization's results.
  • Analyzes data to assess communications ROI (return on investment) utilizing both qualitative and quantitative methods. Select and oversee research to measure impacted user (eg: employee, customer, vendor) awareness and recommend appropriate changes to the communication plan.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited university
  • Minimum of four (4) years of experience in Marketing, Communications, Branding and/or Advertising

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher preferred in Business Administration, Marketing, Journalism, Advertising, Public Relations, or Mass Communication from an accredited university
  • Master’s degree is desired
  • 5-7 years of Corporate or Business Communications experience is preferred
  • Global project experience is preferred
  • Supervisory experience is preferred
  • Design, execution and ongoing management of multi-faceted communication initiatives spanning: Work Center and external/internal website design, campaign design, event management, print design and copy, social media (Facebook, Twitter, blogs, etc), employment branding campaigns.
  • Strong collaboration skills are desired
  • Experience managing agency relationships
  • Ability to translate strategic plan into execution of detailed tactical Communication Plan
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with ability to persuade others in matrix environment.
