August Schell Brewing Company is a family owned and operated brewery in New Ulm, Minnesota. We began in 1860 when August Schell, a German immigrant, couldn’t find a traditional German beer in his new home. So, he made his own.

While the brewery has seen some changes, like plumbing, August’s legacy of being an innovative brewmaster remains. It has continued through six generations and over 100 variety of German Craft beer. Schell’s Brewery has a great opportunity for an individual to join our team.

We’re glad you stopped by. The August Schell Brewing Company is seeking a full-time Communications Specialist to join our team in New Ulm, MN. This position will work closely with Marketing and Sales teams to carry out initiatives imperative to the success of our Schell’s, Grain Belt, and Starkeller Brands. They will represent the brands by carrying out the voice and personality of each brand through the creation of content, activation of programs, and execution of the marketing plan.


  • Copywriting for brand campaigns, social media, press releases, beer launches, website, newsletter, etc. 
  • Creating, posting, monitoring, and effectively engaging with content true to each brand across all social media channels (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram) on a day-to-day basis for all brewery entities 
  • Maintaining a detailed monthly editorial calendar of social media initiatives with a list of assets needed in order to execute effectively 
  • Implementing paid media efforts by placing social ads and reporting on results 
  • Coordinating PR efforts by managing media lists, distributing press releases, and scheduling interviews 
  • Implementing influencer campaigns by cultivating and maintaining relationships with relevant bloggers and influencers and scheduling collaborations 
  • Creating content, executing timely updates, collaborating with developers to consistently enhance our websites, managing vendor relationships, and maintaining the day-to-day functionality of the sites 
  • Collaborating with the marketing team to execute larger brand projects and initiatives 
  • Coordinating with the Creative Director to ensure effective roll-out of integrated marketing strategies

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree with a demonstrated interest in marketing, communication, or public relations 
  • Knowledge of social media platforms and web-based applications 
  • Working knowledge of current trends in digital and social media along with analysis tools such as Hootsuite, Google Analytics, etc. 
  • Experience managing campaigns and optimizing budgets for paid social media ads 
  • Competence in Microsoft Office applications, specifically Word, Excel, and PowerPoint 
  • Proficiency in managing WordPress sites 
  • Confidence, pride in work, and attention to detail

Preferred Skills:

  • Basic graphic design aptitude utilizing Adobe Suite 
  • Photography and photo editing skill
