As a communications specialist with Barr, you will work closely with engineers, scientists, and other communications specialists on external and marketing communications strategies and tactics. Your work will include developing strategies for proposals and opportunity pursuits, as well as writing, editing, and designing persuasive proposals and presentations.

You’ll play a central role developing high-impact digital marketing campaigns to increase Barr’s visibility and engagement with clients and other key audiences. Your work will include developing thought leadership content; creating multimedia content for the company website, publications and social media; partnering with Barr staff and vendors to conceptualize, create and deliver videos and webinars; developing and updating marketing materials; and assisting with collection and analysis of proposal data. You will also develop internal communications that will engage and inform Barr’s team of employee owners.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • B.A. degree in English, communications, marketing, or related field 
  • Three years of experience in a communications position, where work included communicating technical or complex information to a non-technical audience 
  • Experience writing proposals and other forms of persuasive communications 
  • Excellent written communication, editing, and proofreading skills 
  • Experience or ability to develop content in multiple formats such as video, social media, web content, or infographics 
  • Attentiveness to details and deadlines; strong organizational skills 
  • Working knowledge of graphic design and document design principles 
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively 
  • Proficiency with MS Word, PowerPoint, and Excel software 
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Five years of relevant experience 
  • Experience managing projects and project teams 
  • Ability to lead through influence 
  • Digital marketing experience 
  • Knowledge of InDesign, Photoshop, Prezi, Illustrator, Acrobat, and/or MS Project software 
  • Experience with Microsoft Office 365 platforms, including SharePoint online and MS Teams 
  • Advanced document design and graphic design skills 
  • Technical editing experience 
  • Photography experience
