We have a great opportunity for you to do the work that matters as a Communications Specialist on our Brooklyn Park, MN team. In this part time role, you will primarily support communications for Caterpillar Paving operations with additional support for Paving product group. You will provide critical work in communicating strategy, change management, facility daily communications and employee meetings in addition to other areas. You can expect to continuously consult with facility and product group leadership as well as other key process owners on opportunities for communication, messaging and communication vehicles and to positively impact overall facility employee engagement.

As the Communications Specialist, you can expect to:

  • Deliver on communications assignments that are often broad, complex, time sensitive and challenging in nature 
  • Gain an understanding of Caterpillar, the Earthmoving Division and Paving Products business while becoming increasingly familiar with the company’s processes, systems and methodologies, as well as customer needs. 
  • Deliver results through learning to consider alternative courses of actions, making timely decisions and developing your communication skills 
  • Develop newsletter articles, maintain the website and facility digital monitors. 
  • Write video scripts, develop presentations and facilitate internal all-employee meetings. 
  • Execute communication plans for a variety of local initiatives including multiple communications activities both internally and/or externally and managing several non-repeating projects through completion. 
  • Support external communications that may include community outreach activities, managing local media relations and providing liaison with Corporate Public Affairs where necessary.

The successful candidate must bring (Basic Qualifications):

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Communications, or related field, from an accredited college or university. Equivalent relevant experience (4 years) may be considered in lieu of a bachelor’s degree. 
  • At least two years’ experience in a Communications or related role

  • Demonstrated ability to execute communications to the facility through several different vehicles. 
  • Knowledge of, or the ability to quickly learn, Caterpillar policies, practices and procedures. 
  • Demonstrated ability to be an effective Communications practitioner and consultant. 
  • Demonstrated big picture thinking that drives efficiency and stronger communication that impact employee engagement. 
  • Demonstrated ability to coach leaders on messaging. 
  • Strong organization skills 
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality 
  • Technical competence in the field of communications, including writing skills and experience.
  • Excellent team working skills to develop working relationship with others across the division.
  • Knowledge of, and a continuous intellectual curiosity toward, latest communications-related technology

Additional information:

  • This is position requires a minimum of 20 hours and a maximum of 32 hours per week.
  • Relocation assistance is not available for this position.
