The Communications Specialist reports to the Director of School and Community Relations and assists in the planning, improvement, and execution of ongoing operations within the School and Community Relations department. The Communications Specialist will work from the District Office and is a full-time, full-year exempt position. Competitive salary and benefits package offered. Start date is April 3, 2023.

Key Accountabilities:

Digital Communications (50%):

  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive plan for executing digital communications in HSSD, including social media, website, and e-newsletters. 
  • Research and stay current on tools and resources to support HSSD's use of best practices in digital communications, including mobile app-based communications. 
  • Develop capacity to execute HSSD email newsletters for internal audiences, including analytics to measure effectiveness.

Content Creation (25%):

  • Create and inspire two-way communication that connects and engages diverse audiences with emphasis on photography and video. 
  • Develop content for website, social media, and print publications. 
  • Represent School and Community Relations team at events, including photography and video. 
  • Coordinate production of promotional videos for district and schools. 
  • Graphic design support and coordination with external vendors and service providers.

Internal Communications and Department Support (25%):

  • Collaborate with the Director of School and Community Relations to coordinate internal communications consistent with HSSD core beliefs, vision, and mission, with staff as a primary audience. 
  • Provide communications support to HSSD District Office departments and schools. 
  • Ability to take initiative and ownership of projects. 
  • Collaborative disposition within a team. 
  • Attend seminars, workshops, and professional development opportunities to improve skills and keep abreast of technology changes. 
  • Maintain positive interpersonal engagement with principals and department leaders.
  • Associate’s degree or Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, public relations, or related field required.
  • One-to-three (1-3) years of related experience preferred. 
  • Experience in a K-12 public education setting strongly preferred. 
  • Proficiency in Canva, Google drive based tools, and Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator) strongly preferred.
