PRIMARY PURPOSE:

The Communications Coordinator’s primary role is to build awareness of IBR in the communities we serve in the Twin Cities Metro and Duluth, Minnesota and Wisconsin, and in Lincoln and Omaha, Nebraska markets. This individual will promote blood drives, donor recruitment campaigns, donor recognition events; and other community events. The Communications Coordinator will also develop, write, edit, and seek publication of publicity materials within our service areas, and assist with marketing materials, presentations, donor and recipient stories, digital media content including websites, social media, emails, and other communications. This individual will collaborate with other Marketing team members to utilize best practices to plan and execute communications activities, including donor engagement, community, media, and corporate events.

JOB DUTIES:

Communications support for IBR (Memorial Blood Centers and Nebraska Community Blood Bank) -

  • Prepare publicity materials, including social media posts, emails, text messages, press releases, and other communications, as required.
  • Support efforts to maximize opportunities for corporate-wide and regionally-specific promotions and events.
  • Assist in donor promotions and recognition.
  • Help draft, create, and distribute communication materials (e.g., corporate collateral, internal and external communications, etc.)
  • Build, maintain, and execute email campaigns for the local markets (e.g., build lists, draft copy, execute, analyze results)
  • Provide website support as directed

Traditional and Social Media -

  • Develop and maintain relationships with local and regional media.
  • Write and pitch stories to the media that support our mission and community involvement.
  • Identify opportunities for publication of news releases and coordinate distribution as directed.
  • Support the Marketing team members in outreach efforts and media presentations.
  • Utilize best practices, including analytics to evaluate effectiveness and ROI of media activities.

Serve as an effective spokesperson, as needed.

  • Strategize on social media posts and events, paid and organic.
  • Schedule social media posts to increase awareness and engagement.
  • Coordinate with blood banks to gather content for various marketing assets including social media posts, press releases, stories, etc.

Project Coordination -

  • Help ensure projects are completed in a timely fashion.
  • Work with the Marketing team to support community and business partnerships.
  • Help staff donor recognition events, health fairs, and other events.
  • Assist with development, fundraising, and community celebrations.

Other Duties -

  • As assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Formal academic preparation (minimum) required to qualify for the position.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred in Marketing, Communications, or related field.
  • Length and type of relevant (minimum years) experience required to qualify for the position.
  • 2 years’ experience as a communications or marketing coordinator, preferably in health care.
  • Identify any licenses or certifications required for the position. (Be Specific)
  • Valid vehicle operator’s license.
  • Note any other qualifications/experience which is desirable for the position.

Must consistently be able to professionally and constructively interact with the general public as well as community andcivic leaders, managers, peers, et al.Must be self-motivated and able to initiate, manage and complete projects. Highly developed planning and organizational skills required. Proficiency in MS Office, basic HTML, Photoshop, and messaging and social media platforms used for community outreach and donor recruitment.

Status: Full-Time, 1.0 FTE, and Exempt.
