Overview:

This position is for a key member of a close-knit, highly collaborative Communications Team of writers, editors, graphic design experts and technical publication specialists. You will also have the opportunity to work closely with marketing, senior leaders and national-level experts at this fast-paced consulting firm specializing in security risk management, threat and violence risk management, investigations, private client and family office services, and law enforcement consulting.

Duties include editing, proofreading and formatting reports using Microsoft Word. Additional tasks include creating and maintaining Excel spreadsheets and other tasks and projects as assigned by your manager.

You must be able to manage time effectively, follow directions and exhibit initiative. Your work will demand the attention necessary to meet our quality standards – extensive proofreading and editing that elevates messaging impact, continuity and relevance to audience needs. You must have attention to detail that ensures consistency in tone, style and formatting, and a keen eye for accurate spelling, grammar and common usage. You must have experience with AP Style and following in-house style guides.

Responsibilities:

  • Proofread and edit work for spelling, grammar, clarity and compliance with in-house style rules.
  • Work with subject-matter experts to refine and revise content. 
  • Use custom style sheets and templates to ensure standardized formatting across all documents.
  • Ensure the writing style addresses the proper audience and type of publication. 
  • Engage in continuous process improvement to increase communications quality, efficiency and consistency.
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university required. Journalism or communications major preferred but relevant work experience can be substituted. 
  • 2 to 5 years of relevant, professional work experience. 
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Word. 
  • Strong skills in Microsoft Excel preferred. 
  • Highly organized and detail oriented. 
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize in an intensive, multiple-deliverable work environment. 
  • Positive “can-do” attitude and willingness to go the extra mile. 
  • Self-starter who works well as part of a team. 
  • Strong personal and professional values.
