The position will assist in the formulation and execution of strategic communications plans and messaging related to the Office of the County Executive’s vision and agenda for Milwaukee County. The Communications Specialist reports directly to the Communications Director and works in close collaboration with County Executive office staff and various departments as necessary.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Planning - Assist Communications Director with the development and execution of an interactive strategic communications plan, including working with the County Executive and Chief of Staff to craft goals and themes that reflect the administration's vision, actions, and decision making.
  • Press and Media Relations - Assist Communications Director in the coordination of media relations for selected issues and topics, including writing press releases, pitching stories to media, responding to media inquiries, and coordinating press events. Help build and maintain healthy relationships with the media to proactively encourage fair, balanced and accurate reporting. 
  • Social Media Platform Management - Management of County Executive social media platforms, including creating and disseminating content related to the County and the County Executive's office. This may entail creating graphics, capturing photos, recording and editing videos, and other duties as assigned. 
  • Media Tracking - Assist the Communications Director in ensuring that all media coverage is properly tracked and analyzed. 
  • Staff Oversight - Assist Communications Director in providing guidance to other Public Relations and Communications employees in various County Departments to ensure a coordinated message. 
  • Writing and Proofing Briefing Materials for County Executive - Assist the Communications Director in drafting speeches, official comments in response to media inquiries, and remarks for public events. 
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalency required 
  • Previous Office Management work experience required 
  • Previous Customer Service work experience required 
  • Previous Outlook calendar management experience required 
  • Previous work experience in Public Communications preferred 
  • Associate degree or higher in a closely related field preferred 

NOTE: This position is unclassified and not subject to Civil Service Rules and Regulations. This original application is open to qualified candidates authorized to work in the United States. Appointee must establish Wisconsin State residency within six (6) months of appointment andmaintain such residency during incumbency. Salary Range: $73,403.20 - $107,432.00
