St. Catherine University invites applications for a Communications Specialist for the Henrietta Schmoll School of Health (HSSH) and the Office of Marketing and Communications. Members of the Marketing and Communications team are storytellers who create engaging and dynamic marketing messages and materials that raise the profile and awareness of St. Kate’s. Members of this team serve as the voice of St. Kate’s, representing our diverse student body, our commitment to social justice, and helping to achieve our organizational mission.

The Communications Specialist for HSSH is focused on telling the story and raising the profile of the School of Health and its students, faculty, and staff. This person will become a content expert on the School of Health in order to promote achievements, research, activities, and opportunities happening in the school. The Communications Specialist will share these stories across a wide variety of channels, including social media, web, print, and events. They will also work with the Marketing and Communications team to integrate these stories into larger communications and marketing activities for the University.

This is a two-year, grant-funded position.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with other members of the Marketing and Communications team and subject matter experts from HSSH to develop compelling content, including news releases, news stories, social media posts, and web copy.
  • Manage all social media channels for the School of Health, including developing and maintaining an editorial content calendar; work with members of the School to provide support for department social media as needed.
  • Tailor content for various audiences, including prospective students, parents, alumni, and community partners.
  • Stay up to date on higher education and other relevant topics and issues.
  • Work collaboratively with the Marketing and Communications team to strategically integrate and align communications and marketing efforts across the School of Health and within the University’s larger efforts.
  • Support HSSH events with promotions and attend events to share on social media and other storytelling needs.
  • Collaborate with students, faculty, and staff to promote conference attendance, speaking engagements, etc.
  • Ability to think critically to synthesize and integrate information from multiple sources.
  • Practice excellent verbal and written communications, team management, and client management skills; ability to work well with internal and external partners.
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines, juggle numerous projects, and prioritize work with strong follow through.
  • Prepare performance reports and insights using various monitoring platforms.

Required Qualifications:

  • AA in English, Journalism, Communications, Marketing, Public Relations or related liberal arts degree
  • Three years of experience in marketing, communications, media relations, public relations or journalism
  • Demonstrated superior, writing and editing skills as evaluated by cover letter and writing samples included with your application and writing exercise during the interview process.
  • One year of experience managing social media platforms, including producing content, monitoring, and growing followership.
