Waukesha County Community Foundation

We are a collection of charitable funds established by individuals, families, businesses and organizations to help meet local challenges and improve the quality of life in Waukesha County.

We receive charitable gifts, work with families, individuals, attorneys, and estate and financial planners to devise plans that fit every economic situation, ensuring that donors’ charitable contributions are used to the fullest extent and for maximum benefit.

We place gifts into funds, manage the assets of those funds for growth and make grants from those funds. We offerseveral types of fundsto help donors meet their charitable goals while also meeting community needs.

We make grants to agencies and special projectsin Waukesha County, we identify needs, stimulate resources to address those needs and help strengthen Waukesha County for the future.

Our volunteer Board of Directors and staff are dedicated to understanding donor needs, representing their charitable interests, expertly handling complex gifts, wisely managing charitable funds and leveraging a plethora of community knowledge to improve the charitable impact.

We serve as a hub for a collaboration between philanthropists, nonprofits and other funding organizations across Waukesha County.

Position Details

Communications Specialist
Southeast Wisconsin
Waukesha, WI

The full-time Communication Specialist will report to the President and will primarily be responsible for internal and external communications to meet the philanthropic goals of the Foundation and its fundholders

Position Responsibilities:

The Communications Specialist is an integral part of the Foundation team. Coordinating with the WCCF President, the Communication Specialist helps lead efforts to tell the Foundation’s story while ensuring administrative excellence for communications efforts.

Essential Job Outcomes & Functions:

Publications and Media:

  • Develop and produce bi-monthly newsletter 
  • Act as lead project manager for annual report 
  • Create and execute messaging for the Foundation website and social media on Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn while building audiences 
  • Work with WCCF team to develop press releases and collateral 
  • Cultivate and curate stories about WCCF’s people and impact

Fundholder and Donor Communication

  • Develop communications including letters, invitations, and emails for special events and fundholder updates 
  • Utilize data system to create mailing lists and record updates 

Board and Staff Communications

  • Administrative support for board committees: finance, governance, grants, marketing, and ad hoc 
  • Provide communication and creative resource for WCCF team members 

Other Duties

  • As needed, provide customer service to constituents including fundholders, visitors, and community members 
  • Maintain external relationships with graphic designers, photographers, videographers, printers, and more to accomplish the communication goals of the Foundation 
  • The Communications Specialist may be asked to perform other duties from time to time, as needed, to assure efficient office operation
  • 1-3 years of communications experience 
  • Growth mindset and community focused 
  • High proficiency with Microsoft Office products including Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. 
  • Familiarity with customer relationship management (CRM) data systems and desktop publishing such as Constant Contact 
  • Attention to detail and accuracy 
  • Must be highly organized and capable of managing multiple tasks and priorities 
  • Ability to interact with donors, nonprofit organization representatives, board members and community members, etc. 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills 
  • Ability to maintain strict confidence and exhibit professionalism 
  • Experience with nonprofit organizations, grant making, and fund development is desirable 
  • Ability to function with independent judgment

Salary will be commensurate with the experience of candidate and norms in the field. Package includes IRA match, health, dental and vision insurance, life insurance, and holiday/vacation pay and personal time off.
