The Communications Specialist supports copywriting, marketing, and digital production needs for the Alumni Relations unit at the Wisconsin School of Business (WSB). This cross-functional position works with a range of colleagues to support the engagement and advancement goals of WSB.

The communications specialist is responsible for drafting dynamic copy for email, web, and print channels to support alumni events, engagement opportunities, and fundraising efforts. This position helps identify and achieve communication objectives, crafting high-impact messages that serve target audiences.

The communications specialist is the lead author of WSB's bi-monthly electronic newsletter for alumni, and is responsible for identifying story ideas and content for the newsletter. The writer also contributes timely articles for WSB's alumni news blog.

The communications specialist is the lead on digital communications production. This position builds, reviews, tests, and sends mass email communications that are error-free and on-time. The communication specialist obtains and uploads mailing lists, collaborates with the designer on graphic needs, and serves as in-house expert on bulk email system. This position also creates and publishes website blog content.

The communications specialist is responsible for tracking, analyzing, and optimizing performance of digital communication platforms. The role also provides production and writing assistance for WSB's alumni publications.

The incumbent must be able to manage multiple projects simultaneously, be a clear and effective communicator, and pay close attention to detail.

Responsibilities:

Develops and drafts communication content and assists in the execution of the communications strategy in support of unit communication goals.

  • 15% - Monitors reach and effectiveness of communication campaigns, projects, and initiatives
  • 10% - Plans editorial content according to established goals and objects
  •   5% - Communicates with stakeholders to verify requests and identify editorial resources
  • 60% - Writes, edits, and publishes content for various communication projects and marketing platforms to align with strategic initiatives and established communication campaigns
  • 10% - Provides project management and execution of communications programs, initiatives, and tactical plans

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, or related field
  • Minimum one year of professional communications experience
  • Minimum $46,000 ANNUAL (12 months), depending on Qualifications.
