In addition to covering the local issues that are most important to the community, WUWM’s news team runs special reporting initiatives on significant beats, including the environment, education, and race and ethnicity. Their local show and podcast, Lake Effect, brings the community local conversations about the people, places and organizations that shape Milwaukee.

Reporting to the Marketing Manager, the Community Engagement and Audience Development Coordinator is an essential member of the marketing team helping to plan and coordinate the overall outreach, community engagement and audience development strategy, as well as event facilitation and execution. This individual must possess excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills, and have a passion for public media and community engagement.

Community Engagement

  • Assist in creating plan and success metrics for developing new relationships and outreach to potential partner organizations; work cross-functionally to implement plan.
  • Build and coordinate volunteer ambassador program.
  • Work cross-functionally to assist in producing community engagement content products, including existing products like Bubbler Talk and developing new products with the content team
  • Assist in developing new community engagement products that drive value acrossWUWM.
  • Work cross-functionally to create community engagement events.
  • Attend various community meetings, actively representingWUWMand providing leadership to various initiatives as appropriate.
  • Participate in fundraising activities as required including fund drives, grants, and donor stewardship

Audience Development:

  • Write/edit the weekly e-newsletter.
  • Grow the e-newsletter subscription database.
  • Coordinates online contests and email communications
  • Work to develop a pipeline of engagement from newsletter subscriber to member
  • Provide critical support to develop new audiences through innovative community outreach, live tapings, special events, media tie-ins, e-communications and database management.
  • Coordinate with Digital team to grow audience through developing and posting engaging social content on existing and new social media channels.

Events:

  • Coordinate station events and logistics.
  • Communicate all events information to participating departments to ensure timely coordination.
  • Determine staffing needs and work schedules necessary to implement all activities and events.
  • Manage listener volunteers, interns and interim part-time assistance.
  • Work on special projects and other related duties as assigned

Work Location:We expect that this position will reside within WUWM’s listening area. WUWM is currently a hybrid work model. Our office and studio is located at the Chase Tower in downtown Milwaukee.

Please note that evening and weekend hours are required as needed to work station-related events.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree and 3 years of experience in one or more of the following fields of work: community engagement, marketing, media or event planning; OR a minimum of 5 years of experience in one or more of those fields.
  • Demonstrated success in growing audience or stakeholder engagement

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Excellent writing and editing skills
  • Experience in a media company
  • Demonstrated experience working directly with members of the public and the ability to build and maintain working relationships with diverse groups in multicultural environments
  • Ability to produce results under pressure, set priorities, manage multiple projects and meet deadlines
  • Energetic self-starter, able to work both independently and within a close-knit team
  • Experience and knowledge of Milwaukee and Southeast Wisconsin
  • Experience working with colleagues or communities with a diverse array of perspectives and background

Target Salary Range: $45,000 - $55,000/Annually (Salary will be determined by finalist's experience, training, education, and equity-based factors.)
