PBS Wisconsin's Community Engagement team creates and fosters authentic relationships to ensure that all the communities we serve feel represented, valued, and connected with PBS Wisconsin through our programming, events, and outreach. This position will assist in the next phase of growth of our engagement and will join a team of engagement leaders focused on building authentic connections and doing meaningful, collaborative work.

Every community is different, and we strive to ensure our engagement reflects that. While there is no one-size-fits-all routine in the creation of our engagement - authentic relationship building, detailed preparation, and follow-through remain constants in our work. Community input and feedback, along with our own creativity, form the foundation of each of our engagement projects.

A successful Community Engagement Manager will have excellent verbal and written communication skills, the ability to connect authentically with diverse groups of people, and a creative approach to their work. The need for strong interpersonal skills, attention to detail, ability to make real-time decisions in event settings, and adaptability based on community feedback is a must.

PBS Wisconsin's community engagement work happens statewide, and occasional overnight and/or weekend travel may be required for meetings and events. This position reports to the Associate Director of Community Engagement & Impact.

Responsibilities:

Delivers and assists with planning outreach program activities, strengthens partnerships, ensures adherence to policy, and assists with program administration to promote stable and productive relationships between the university and local community. Strives to expand and ensure access to programs, facilities, and educational services to diverse audiences. May assist with tracking and managing the outreach program budget.

  • 15% - Identifies, promotes, and maintains external partnerships to support the outreach program
  • 15% - Schedules and secures resources and communicates logistics in support of an outreach program
  • 10% - Delivers outreach program content and materials to community members 10% Researches, develops, and facilitates outreach program content and materials
  • 5% - Develops and evaluates curriculum and programs and provides recommendations for improvement
  • 5% - May assist with the monitoring of outreach program budget spending
  • 20% - Leads the implementation of programs, policies, and procedures through oversight of day-to-day activities for program staff and student and community volunteers
  • 20% - Increases visibility of the organization by creating opportunities to connect work to new audiences, represents PBS Wisconsin at events, and in other projects as assigned

Education:

Preferred -

Bachelor's Degree with a concentration in communication arts or related field preferred

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. At least one-year, full time, professional experience in a public-facing role developing and executing community engagement/outreach projects or events with multiple stakeholders
  2. A demonstrated history of creating and sustaining community relationships as a key liaison, with a focus on inclusive partnerships with under-represented communities/agencies in the creation and execution of work/projects
  3. Professional experience with event planning and execution
  4. Professional experience successfully crafting and delivering public presentations to groups of all sizes
  5. Demonstrated excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills, including public speaking6 - Experience working independently, collaboratively as part of a team, and with external partners

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Professional experience in a public-facing role in a community service, social service, or nonprofit organization
  2. Experience developing evaluation or outcome measurement(s)
  3. Fluency in another language in addition to English
