At Sixteenth Street Community Health Centers, we care deeply about our relationship with the community. We’re seeking a Community Relations Manager to advance the agency’s brand and reputation within the Milwaukee and Waukesha communities and to nurture meaningful relationships with individuals, local schools, area businesses, community organizations, faith-based organizations and other external groups that advance Sixteenth Street’s mission, vision and goals. The position reports to the Vice President of Advancement.

For more than 50 years, Sixteenth Street Community Health Centers has provided medical, behavioral, and environmental health services to the underserved communities on the south side of Milwaukee and in Waukesha. Our mission is to improve health and well-being by providing quality, patient-centered, family-based health care, health education and social services, free from linguistic, cultural, and economic barriers.

  • Develop and implement a strategic community relations plan for understanding perceptions of Sixteenth Street within the communities we serve in Milwaukee and Waukesha, enhancing our reputation across various stakeholder groups, reinforcing trust in our communities, and building a pipeline of prospective referral sources and collaborative opportunities. 
  • Work with residents and stakeholders to assess community needs and identify gaps in Sixteenth Street’s services and programs. 
  • Plan, develop, implement, and organize community outreach activities and events to educate the broader community about Sixteenth Street’s services, programs, and impact and create goodwill in the communities we serve. 
  • Attend relevant events and activities to represent Sixteenth Street and build strong relationships with key community members and stakeholders.
  • Serve as point-of-contact related to health fairs and community events and coordinate with staff for representation at such events. 
  • Strengthen community engagement by growing and managing Sixteenth Street’s volunteer program. 
  • Prepare and/or distribute awareness, educational and outreach materials.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in public relations, corporate communications, journalism, marketing or similar. 
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in community relations or related field. 
  • Ability to speak and write fluently in Spanish required. 
  • Proven record of building engaged effective external relationships. 
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills. 
  • Team-oriented, with strong interpersonal skills. 
  • Proven project management success.
  • Experience managing volunteers a plus. 
  • Ability to work independently and in a group setting.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and manage controversial subjects with tact, kindness, and professionalism.
