The content manager is responsible for managing, developing, writing, editing, and fact checking content for multiple university communications across various platforms including print, email, web, and social media, among others, all to support the university’s visibility, brand awareness, and admission goals. The content manager is responsible for liaising with internal university clients, developing and coordinating strategic communications, and working with Marketing and Communications colleagues to leverage content for various outlets including the university’s News Website and social media pages. The content manager will contribute stories to Illinois Tech Magazine, act as a reporter to research and write smart and informed content, be an excellent copyeditor and fact checker, have the ability to identify stories with the potential to receive earned media coverage, and also write compelling marketing copy.

Key Responsibility:

Reporting to the director of content, the content manager will manage, develop, write, edit, and fact check content for university communications across various platforms including print, emails, web, and social media, among others. While the content manager may focus on a particular college/school subunit(s), thereby acting as a point of contact and managing workflow for that area(s), the work will span admission, marketing, and branding. This position will focus on project management and writing aboutSTEMtopics, especially engineering.

The content manager will also be responsible for regularly measuring the effectiveness of the work.

Percentage Of Time: 85

Key Responsibility:

Write and copyedit for the News Website and other communications.

Percentage Of Time: 15

Education & Experience:

A bachelor’s degree is required for this position along with a minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience in communications, media, or a related field. Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills are required, as is advanced proficiency in AP Style and/or Chicago Manual of Style. Excellent reporting, interviewing, and fact checking skills are required, as is experience with project management. Experience in higher education, the nonprofit sector, and/or a science and technology setting is a bonus.

  • Comfortable and have the skill set to go in person to investigate, interview, and draw out the details of stories ideas from faculty, students and upper administration
