The content/public relations strategist is a storyteller who crafts strategic, compelling, results-driven messaging that supports our organizational mission, enhances and protects our reputation and amplifies our brand locally, regionally and nationally. This role works closely with both internal clients and members of the marketing/communications team to tell the Vivent Health story across multiple platforms and is also responsible for developing earned media strategies that ensure the right messaging reaches the right audience at the right time. The position requires a versatile and creative writer experienced in producing content for web, email, direct mail, print collateral, press releases/media advisories, feature articles, blogs, digital and traditional advertising, video scripts, social media posts and more. It requires a strategist’s approach to developing an annual content plan that delivers on goals across the enterprise. Responsibilities also include developing strong media relationships in all Vivent Health markets and successfully pitching stories that deliver on goals. This position provides media training across the organization and serves as a spokesperson as needed. The content/public relations strategist is a resource for internal clients, managing integrated communications/marketing projects as required, and providing occasional back-up to the social media strategist, posting content as needed.

Content Strategy/Storytelling

  • Create clear, compelling, on-brand, best-in-class copy across multiple marketing executions including websites, social media, direct mail, email marketing, blogs, articles, newsletters, advertising, white papers, print collateral, video scripts and more; contribute to the development of content strategies that connect with Vivent Health audiences and deliver on organizational goals.
  •  Collaborate with the marketing communications team and internal clients to brainstorm concepts and leverage points of integration across campaigns.
  •  Participate in in-house client meetings; clearly articulate the rationale behind content solutions. 
  • Proactively gather supporting information as needed to most effectively tell the story, including research, interviews, meetings with in-house clients, etc. 
  • Consistently bring new ideas and fresh concepts to overall content strategy; search out innovative ways to tell the Vivent Health story. 
  • Serve as back-up to the social media strategist; post to social platforms as needed. 
  • Shoot candid phone videos for social media/internal use.
  •  Carry out competing projects under tight deadlines. 

Public Relations Strategy

  • Facilitate strategic media outreach with a focus on building strong media relationships in multiple Vivent Health locations. 
  • Develop and nurture relationships throughout the organization to create a pipeline of story ideas.
  • Develop annual strategic public relations editorial calendar; initiate proactive story placement/pitching that delivers on organizational goals. 
  • Serve as primary point of contact for all media inquiries; arrange interviews and develop all necessary resources including background materials for media and talking points for spokespeople.
  • Identify leadership and other organizational spokespeople to serve as an expert pool; provide media training to prepare spokespeople for interviews.
  • Serve as Vivent Health spokesperson and/or distribute official statements on behalf of the organization as necessary.
  • Write and distribute news releases, media alerts, position statements and related supporting content. 
  • Maintain and regularly update a database of media contacts and outreach. 
  • Track monthly media outreach/coverage; provide detailed monthly reports aligned with KPIs.
  • Monitor industry news; analyze news trends and leverage opportunities for storytelling and growing awareness of the Vivent Health mission and brand. 
  • Work collaboratively with members of the marketing communications team and internal clients to identify strategic public relations opportunities as part of integrated communications planning. 
  • Collaborate with social media strategist to leverage national synergies between earned and owned media.
  • Educate Vivent Health colleagues on public relations best practices and their value. 
  • Proactively identify issues or trends that could impact Vivent Health’s reputation; assist in the development and execution of strategies to mitigate outcomes. 
  • Participate in reputation management and crisis communication monitoring, planning and response.
  • Serve as a liaison for internal clients, managing integrated communications/marketing projects as required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, English or related field. 
  • 5+ years of experience in multichannel content creation and public/media relations; agency experience a plus. 
  • Strong and varied portfolio of work samples to include copywriting/public relations. Excellent grammar, writing, editing and proofreading skills. 
  • Expert knowledge of AP style. 
  • Experience creating or contributing to multi-channel content strategies. 
  • Demonstrated experience developing strategic media relationships, building targeted media lists and securing media placements locally, regionally and nationally. 
  • Experience in media training senior leadership and internal subject matter experts to serve as media spokespersons. 
  • Strong interviewing/information gathering skills. 
  • Aptitude for cultivating internal resources, proactively seeking out compelling stories from across the enterprise and packaging/pitching to achieve desired results. 
  • Experience developing public relations campaigns across earned and owned media. Familiarity with influencer marketing helpful.
  • Demonstrated experience in reputation management and crisis communication strategy and response. 
  • Experience using media monitoring platforms such as Cision; understanding of public relations metrics; ability to analyze and extrapolate data in a meaningful way. 
  • Understanding of content best practices for digital channels 
  • Understanding of and experience in the application of SEO concepts a plus. 
  • Working knowledge of Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, Snapchat, Tik Tok, YouTube, etc.
  • Working knowledge of social media management tools (Sprout social, Hoot Suite, etc.) a plus Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. 
  • Well-developed research skills.
