The Milwaukee shelter also houses one of the state's busiest Wildlife Rehabilitation Center. Are you a skilled writer looking for a rewarding career? Come work for a leader in animal welfare! The Wisconsin Humane Society (WHS) has an opportunity for a professional and creative individual to join our Communications and Marketing team as a full-time Content Specialist.

The Content Specialist is responsible for drafting on-brand, engaging content for use in various marketing channels, including social media, press communications, website, print, E-mail, and digital publications. Note: This position does not manage the shelter’s social media accounts. This position is currently remote (eventually hybrid) but must be able to report to the WHS Milwaukee, Ozaukee, or Racine Campuses as needed.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Research and draft brand-consistent stories for distribution on various media channels. 
  • Repurpose content for multiple channels, including social media, electronic newsletters, press releases, WHS website, print materials, event scripts, and more. 
  • Coordinate the Stories Promoting Engagement & Kindness (SPEAK) employee storytelling program. 
  • Draft animal bios for website. 
  • Obtain photographs/video clips to support storytelling. 
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Excellent written communication skills. 
  • Experience in journalism or communications strongly preferred. 
  • Experience with photography, videography, and basic video editing strongly preferred. 
  • Capable of handling high-pressure situations in a professional manner in a fast-paced environment. 
  • Capable of seeking and completing deadline-driven work assignments in an independent and highly motivated manner. 
  • Commitment to treat people and animals with respect and kindness. 
  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, English, or related field strongly preferred.

Full-time staff are eligible for a comprehensive benefits package including up to 2 weeks Vacation, 1 week Paid Time Off (PTO), and 6 paid Holidays within their first year. Paid time-off will be prorated based on the full-time hire date and is available after 45 days of consecutive employment.On the first of the month following 60 days of consecutive employment, full-time staff are eligible for these additional benefits:
