Position Details

Content Strategist
Twin Cities Metro
St. Paul, MN

CommonBond Communities invites qualified applicants to apply for the Content Strategist position at our Central Office in St. Paul, MN. The Content Strategist is responsible for planning, managing, and distributing mission-focused content to a diverse audience, including staff, donors, the general public, and various media outlets. The Content Strategist works with CommonBond’s Resource Development team and other departments and draws on practiced project management, organization, planning, and writing skills to create and implement campaigns and their associated assets to increase brand awareness and support for the organization. Manages third party vendors to support effective campaign implementation. Supervises interns to ensure management of current content, and creation of other needed assets.


Designs and builds campaigns to increase awareness and support of CommonBond.

  • Partners with Resource Development colleagues to create, adjust, and manage an annual editorial calendar to align brand awareness, fundraising appeals, and public communications activities. 
  • Collaborates with the Director of Communications to produce campaigns with compelling calls to action that help increase contributions to and awareness of CommonBond’s mission. 
  • Moves communications strategies forward to ensure CommonBond staff and stakeholders feel well informed and confident in their understanding of CommonBond’s mission and activities.

Manages creation and production of mission-focused content.

  • Works closely with the Communications Coordinator to develop all public-facing content such as web, email, social channels, collateral documents, branded templates, and executive presentation materials. 
  • Moves communications strategies forward to ensure timely completion of campaign deliverables. 
  • Manages website, social media channels, and email marketing platform. 
  • Makes data-informed decisions on advertising and other marketing needs. 
  • Manages third-party vendors providing marketing, advertising, data analysis, and other services as needed. 
  • Provides direction for photo and video shoots. 
  • Archives and uses creative assets to create supporting graphics and designs. 
  • Project manages the Annual Report. 
  • Manages interns as needed, focusing on the creation, update, or distribution of content.


Nonprofit Mission Focus & Core Competencies:

  • Bachelor’s degree or relevant work experience. 
  • Outstanding organizational skills, including the ability to manage multiple tasks and details simultaneously. 
  • Strong desire and ability to work closely and collaboratively with others. 
  • Understanding of the unique mission focused aspects of nonprofit marketing and communications.

Project Management:

  • Competency and comfort with project management, including planning, documenting, and executing multiple projects across departments. 
  • Ability to coordinate multiple short- and long-term projects at once, including regularly scheduled communications to donors, event-related marketing efforts, and time-sensitive public relations and crisis management.

Content Creation:

  • Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills, including excellent grammar and proofreading abilities. 
  • Graphic design experience and working knowledge of various design software platforms (Adobe Creative suite). 
  • Working knowledge of website management platforms (WordPress) 
  • Comprehensive, multi-platform social media management. 
  • Working knowledge of email marketing practices and platforms (MailChimp, Online Express, and Constant Contact). 
  • Proficient in use of Microsoft Office software.


  • Ability to sit for extended periods of time. 
  • Ability to operate a computer for writing, web, and other software
