CLIENT ASSOCIATION: Hematology/Oncology Pharmacy Association (HOPA)

REPORTS TO: Director of Communications

DIRECT REPORTS: None

STATUS: Exempt (Minimum 37.5 hours/week)

GENERAL SUMMARY:

The Content Strategist serves as the staff editor of the Association’s website and has primary responsibilities for planning, publishing, and maintaining all digital content to optimize the user experience and properly communicate the society messaging and brand. Responsible for engaging the audience by educating, informing, and inspiring them. Provides website and other digital analytics.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conduct competitive reviews, industry research, and gap analyses, and recommend topics,contenttypes, and distribution channels to HOPA committees and leaders to better reach and motivate audiences. 
  • Along with marketing managers and staff liaisons, identify multi-media opportunities and curate videos, podcasts, and other media types; assist in the creation and production of original multi-media content. 
  • Develop and manage website authorship and governance models, with the assistance of association staff and volunteer subject matter experts, to keep information accurate, relevant, timely and innovative (scientific and non-scientific in nature). 
  • Edit content according to brand-communications guidelines, including tone, style, and voice; create or request graphics that are brand compliant. 
  • Assist with content migration from existing website to a new Content Management System (CMS); facilitate annual content audits by guiding content owners through the auditing process. 
  • Educate staff on content creation and publication best practices, including article categorization and tagging, and meaningful keywords. 
  • Stay updated on content management systems, web analytics and SEO research software, and other tools that aid the content planning, publication, and reporting processes. 
  • Develop strong partnerships with appropriate and relevant online communities, including collaborators, cancer and patient advocacy groups, and other external organizations to enhance HOPA’s virtual presence and impact. 
  • Along with Digital Marketing Manager, analyze reports on digital campaign effectiveness in an effort to maximize results as well as monitor all press/blog/social media mentions including the use of Google Analytics or equivalent Web analytics software. 
  • Along with the Communications Director, develop digital communications objectives and align editorial calendar with strategic pillars and committee charges. 
  • Along with Communications, Membership, and Education Directors, create target audience profiles. 
  • Develop and monitor budget in areas of responsibilities 
  • Serve as staff liaison to appropriate committees 
  • Other duties as assigned

Education/Experience Required:

Experience:

  • 3-5 years of website content planning, development, deployment, and management (no programming) required. 
  • Strong copywriting experience a must; design experience a plus. 
  • Content strategy creation or implementation across all digital communication channels a must. 
  • Experience conducing competitive content reviews and creating audience personas (demographics and psychographics) highly desired. 
  • Bonus if you have great presentation skills and are comfortable interfacing with board members and other stakeholders. 

Qualifications:

  • Ability to work independently but also with teams both internally and with volunteer leaders. 
  • Deadline driven, detail oriented, and collaborative. 
  • Editorial competency, including determining if content should be kept, edited, rewritten, or archived. 
  • Must have strong organizational skills and good analytical abilities to spot patterns and trends in content marketing. 
  • Must be an avid user of social media and have a natural interest in online communities. 
  • Ability to use creativity while maintaining excellent communication skills in all forms. 

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Communications, Marketing or Journalism is preferred 


OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Travel of up to 2 weeks per year 
  • Some evening and weekend work as needed 
  • Occasional lifting, up to 50 pounds  

* This position is located in downtown Milwaukee, WI and dedicated weekly days in the office are a requirement of the role.
