Reporting to the VP, Communications, the Communications Manager, will develop content for all internal communications platforms including our intranets for independent retailers and internal associates. Responsibilities will include annual report, earnings, executive communications, and business function communications.

This position will be responsible for driving communication strategies that contribute to our retail growth and success. Manage the development, integration and dissemination of company messaging and news for our Company associates and CEO messaging for retailers.

Responsible to build strategic relationships with managers and distill straight forward and complex information vital for creating communication that supports Company vision and drives associate engagement. Manages the development of electronic and print media including research and measurement in the area of associate communication including intranet/social media, print, executive announcements, videos, town hall meetings,. Corporate communications responsibilities include managing shareholder relations and our Company intranet sites (AOL-Associates Online) and (MOL-Members Online) Internet site, truevaluecompany.com.

Overall:

  • Develop and execute on highly innovative internal communications strategies, messaging and tactics that engage True Value’s associates and retailers. 
  • Develop and implement an internal communications program that drive associate and retailer confidence in the business strategy, build awareness of key initiatives and reinforce our investment in members. 
  • Assess risks, issues and potential communications problems and provide proactive solutions.
  • Drive effective communication and messaging to continually create a sense of excitement, purpose and line of site linkage between associates, retailers and the organizational strategy, all with the goal of improving business results through engagement. 
  • Continuously assess and measure the success of current content and communications platforms. 
  • Explore and evaluate emerging content platforms and tools to build strategies and proposals for implementing effective campaigns which drive the communication strategy for the organization. 
  • Works with the VP, Communications and Communication team members in developing and executing annual and quarterly communication plans in support of company strategies and initiatives. 
  • People management - provides on-going mentoring, motivation and development of communications specialist; guides on-going collaboration and training opportunities for content management team.

Associate Communications:

  • Leads cross-functional intranet team in content development and management. Manages consistency of message and editorial guidelines, usability and design, editorial calendar, approvals, posting, and measurement. 
  • Guides messaging and execution of quarterly CEO Town Hall meetings; develops updates for distribution center manager meetings nationwide. Assists in the development of content (agenda’s, presentations, video, external speakers, etc) for associate meetings of all sizes. 
  • Administers annual President's Awards competition and provides support upon request, for other associate recognition opportunities. 
  • Serves as partner to business functions (i.e. Marketing, Operations, Finance, etc.) providing communications counsel and integration.

Corporate Communications:

  • Shareholder - partnering with outside agency, oversees content and production of annual proxy statement, annual report, stockholder's meeting and quarterly financial reporting. 
  • Measurement - directs the measurement of communication vehicles and programs, conducts analysis and provides suggestions for improvement. 
  • Support executive interviews and other interactions with external media, providing counsel, messaging support and media training as needed; write and edit communications materials including press releases, media alerts, though leadership, and social media content. 
  • Partner with leadership to create and deliver transparent information and clear messages regarding the direction of the company and key initiatives.

Minimum Type and Years of Related Experience Required:

  • Seven to ten years of related experience required 
  • Corporate/agency experience required 
  • Strategic thinking; communications strategy planning 
  • AP style required 
  • Knowledge of web and social media technology 
  • Knowledge of electronic and print production process 
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines 
  • Must be proactive and self-motivated 
  • Strong initiative and follow-thru skills, ability to work with minimal day-to-day supervision 
  • Ability to wear multiple hats 
  • Knowledge of retail marketing and operations a plus

Minimum Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications or Business or equivalent work experience
