This role will mimic a media relations guru at a PR agency – finding story ideas within the business and creating a vision for sharing those stories with consumers through national media outlets. You’ll connect with national reporters and producers and maintain those relationships to help tell our stories.

Maintaining relationships will be key and you’ll have the freedom to create those connections. Sure, there’s some news release writing involved, but not nearly as much as there used to be. We’re storytellers and we want someone who is ready to help jump in and build our story with us – engage senior leaders and facilitate media interviews to land national coverage. Are you in?

Key Responsibilities:

  • Make and maintain relationships with national media contacts. 
  • Find and promote stories from within the business to share externally. 
  • Think strategically about stories that show us as a caring company. 
  • Communication planning and execution 
  • Content Creation: With direction, create message and content to help raise awareness with key stakeholders of Allstate as an innovative, customer-centric and caring company. 
  • Simplify complex ideas 
  • Collaborate with social media center of excellence and Marketing to build surround-sound communication plans that showcase Allstate as an innovative and caring company. 
  • Listen and learn about multiple business units and new products or services, then translate that into messages that speak to the consumer benefits. 
  • Be nimble, on-the-go and ready at any minute to pivot when necessary to achieve success on a deadline.

Preferred Qualifications:

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in journalism, communication, marketing or related field.
  • 1-3 years of experience in communications or a related role.
  • Bi-lingual a plus.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

  • None required

Functional Skills:

  • Media Relations: Basic understanding of media relations practices, experience developing content and securing placement in media channels a plus. 
  • Written Communication Skills: Knowledgeable of Associated Press style and creative/persuasive writing. Able to simplify complex ideas into clear, concise messaging. 
  • Interpersonal and Team Skills: Ability to work effectively as a member of a team. Can easily establish new relationships and build rapport. 
  • Presentation and Verbal Communication Skills: Experience preparing basic presentations, incorporating key messaging with coaching. Effective presentation skills and persuasive skills. Working knowledge of Word and PowerPoint. Graphics experience a plus.
  • Project Management: Ability to develop work plans that organize project work into discrete tasks, sequencing activities to achieve maximum efficiency.
  • Critical Thinking: Ability to gather and interpret information relevant to a problem or issue and escalate accordingly; can analyze information from various sources and identify additional information needs, making some connections to business goals and objectives
  • Communication Strategy and Planning: Experience assisting in the development and execution of communication strategy and planning process, including coordinating and implementing tactics with direction
  • Business Acumen: Understanding of business and industry practices, basic knowledge of insurance and financial services.

Compensation Data:

The minimum salary for this position is $51,000. The salary offered will be commensurate with experience.
