Wisconsin State Fair Park is multi-purpose entertainment venue hosting activities, events and meetings throughout the year. It is home to the Exposition Center, Tommy G. Thompson Youth Center, the Milwaukee Mile Speedway, Wisconsin Products Pavilion and many other facilities, where hundreds of events are held each year, most notably the annual Wisconsin State Fair, presented by U.S. Cellular.

The 11-day Wisconsin State Fair is the state’s largest agriculture showcase, and features 30 free entertainment stages as well as the Main Stage presented by Potawatomi Hotel & Casino, hosting today’s top entertainers. Each year the Fair features thousands of animals and exhibitors, hundreds of food and beverage vendors, endless family activities, events, contests and more. The Fair welcomed a record-breaking 1,033,053 guests in 2015 and the 2016 Fair will mark 165 years of celebrating this tradition.

The Wisconsin State Fair is seeking a creative/graphic design intern. If you have a diverse portfolio and experience in graphic design, print/production and photography, you may be the right person to join our team.

Under the direction of the Marketing and Communications Director and the Creative Manager, the Creative & Graphic Design Intern will be responsible for the following:

  • Support in the development of Annual State Fair publications, pamphlets and other marketing materials for multiple departments
  • Support in the development of annual Harvest Fair publications, pamphlets and other marketing materials
  • Assist in the development and design of Fair and Fair Park related signage
  • Work closely with the PR department developing Social Media graphics for various platforms
  • Involvement in design and development of digital materials for multiple promotions
  • Support the Creative Manager in photography responsibility during annual Wisconsin State Fair, as well as update and maintain electronic photo library for media and sponsorship purposes
  • Assist with maintaining three websites, including Wisconsin State Fair Park, the annual Wisconsin State Fair event, and the annual Harvest Fair event, as well as the Wisconsin State Fair App
  • Support in development and management of mass e-marketing deployments regarding Fair promotions to the existing database of over 25,000+
  • Assist in the coordination of promotional programs that are e-marketed
  • Support in development of strategic viral promotions in conjunction with the traditional advertising campaign to generate additional awareness in an interactive medium

The preferred candidate will have junior or senior standing working toward a degree in graphic design or advertising with an emphasis on design. Ideal candidates will have several years of experience working with Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign and Illustrator) and experience with print and web production. Candidates must possess experience using a digital SLR camera, as well as have an eye for lighting and visual composition. Experience with event photography is a plus.

The Graphic Design Intern must be a team player supporting all facets of marketing. Candidates must have excellent verbal and written communication skills, outstanding attention to detail and be willing and able to work under tight timelines and stressful periods of time leading up to the annual State Fair. The ability to work all 11 days of Wisconsin State Fair for extended shifts (August 4 – 14) is a must.

The Creative Design Intern will work from late January through the summer and into the fall if schedules allow. Exact dates and hours may be worked around school schedules. The position will work the following hours throughout the year:

January - February: 10 - 15 hrs/wk
March - May: 15 - 20 hrs/wk
June - August: 40 hrs/wk (up to 50 hrs/wk during State Fair)

Candidates MUST be available all 11 days of the Wisconsin State Fair, August 4 - 14, 2016.
