The Marketing Database Manager is an integral part of the Marketing Team and is responsible for building and executing marketing campaigns using email, SMS, direct mail and digital retargeting to enhance the student enrollment experience and increase conversion. As a cross-functional resource, this role collaborates with internal teams to gather requirements and translate business needs into technical execution. This is both a strategic and hands-on role, providing an opportunity to define the University’s nurturing strategy for the future. This position is responsible for supporting the team by contributing to multiple projects while conveying the big picture.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate the following:

  • A strong understanding of the digital marketing landscape and customer journey mapping. 
  • Experience segmenting and optimizing campaigns that leverage test methodology. 
  • A self-starter who thrives in a fast paced environment. 
  • Exceptional written and communication skills and ability to interact with a wide variety of audiences. 
  • Successfully prioritize multiple tasks with good judgment, initiative, follow-through, and attention to detail. 
  • Recognize opportunities for process improvement and take on new challenges. 
  • Strong proofreading skills.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Plan, execute, and measure email and SMS marketing campaigns and evaluate the campaign’s effectiveness. 
  • In partnership with graphic and web designers, develop assets associated with campaign execution, form development, landing page design, email templates, etc. 
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to expand lead nurturing campaigns. 
  • Understand and utilize data to leverage A/B testing to suggest and execute new standards. 
  • Establish appropriate analytics to monitor and measure campaign effectiveness, providing optimization recommendations where necessary. 
  • Implement lead scoring rules. 
  • Apply customer personas and leverage insights to test and optimize messaging, mediums, offers and design.


  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, business, or a related analytical discipline. 
  • At least three years' experience with database marketing/nurturing automation in B2B and/or B2C environments. 
  • Significant experience in marketing automation platform strategy and deployment; multi-touch campaign/program development and measurement; lead nurturing; lead scoring; database management (segmentation, reporting and maintenance); and general inbound marketing. 
  • Strong understanding of segment building, data normalization and cleansing, and engagement strategies. 
  • Hands-on experience building, executing, measuring and reporting on campaigns using nurturing automation tools. 
  • Experience with digital retargeting and paid search/paid social campaigns is a plus. 
  • Experience with Eloqua is a plus. 
  • Practical understanding of higher education is a plus.
