Position:

We’re looking for a Lead Designer to join our Morningstar Indexes team. Backed by Morningstar’s industry-leading research, and driven by our mission to empower investor success, our team creates innovative, investable product solutions and benchmarking tools that reflect our decades-long experience with investors. We’re looking to increase awareness and differentiation in a competitive market landscape and deepen customer engagement and trust with our Morningstar Indexes offering. We seek a curious, multi-talented individual who can bring a strategic point of view to crafting delightful, on-brand customer experiences, and own all aspects of the creative process: discovery, definition, development, and delivery.

We’re looking for someone who can:

  • Be deeply collaborative and can bring the right players together to solve creative problems
  • Demonstrate core design skills—especially concerning typography, composition, information hierarchy, and data Visualization—to create delightful, engaging experiences that reinforce the Morningstar brand
  • Gain a deep understanding of the product and service touchpoints to strengthen the end-to-end customer experience
  • Utilize user- and customer-centered design methods in day-to-day work to inform design decisions (such as user research, prototyping, and other design thinking methods)
  • Create high-fidelity prototypes and other artifacts that communicate design direction and execution considerations
  • Articulate decisions around brand expression, content strategy, and customer needs
  • Actively seeking out new challenges and be tenacious in overcoming obstacles to achieve results

You’ll also do things like:

  • Collaborate with the product owners, marketers, designers, and engineers to support the end-to-end vision of the customer experience
  • Clearly articulate design decisions and share your process with stakeholders and other designers
  • Participate in critiques, workshops, design studios, and other design activities
  • Adapt your work and approach to meet changing priorities as they occur
  • Be curious, resourceful, flexible and adaptive
  • Have a desire to solve challenging information, communication, and systems design problems
  • Open to feedback and knows how to defend design decisions
  • Able to bring energy to a team and keep things positive

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • 5-7 years of relevant experience in designing for end-to-end brand-focused experiences

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in graphic design or equivalent experience/training in the graphic arts
  • Strong knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, Sketch, InVision, Microsoft Office Suite, Keynote, and macOS
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral
  • Knowledge of HTML and CSS
