Position Details

Designer II
Northern Illinois
Downers Grove, IL

This position is responsible for ideation and creative development of campaigns and projects. Working from creative briefs, the Designer II produces original campaigns, creative ideas and art with the objective of capturing the target audience’s attention through channels such as print, digital, social media, out-of-home, video and visual merchandising.

The responsibility of the Designer II role includes cracking the creative idea/campaign, but also taking them through production, including photography and development.

The role is expected to be versed in relevant graphic design and web software package.

*Hybrid Schedule offered: Tuesday-Wednesday in-office, Monday, Thursday & Friday flexible/remote days.*

Duties and Responsibilities (Key Deliverables):

While working on multiple projects, the duties of a Designer II may comprise of the following:

  • Accountable for leading a large versatility of work, including any product or service Fresh Thyme communicates to customers and/or team members. 
  • Ability to simplify complex challenges into simple, compelling customer messaging and creative. 
  • Ability to fully understand client deliverables, and to take responsibility for them. 
  • Ability to understand and create to brand boundaries and also push them through original thought and creative execution. 
  • Versed in campaign development across media types - .com/mobile, social, radio, OOH, video, etc.; while the candidate should be versed in design development across media, there may be a particular focus in this role (i.e.: promotional design, digital design or visual merchandising design). 
  • Demonstrates successful design and integration across media. 
  • Ability to create and deliver weekly cadence of customer communication in addition to campaigns, including concepting and execution of tactics. 
  • Oversees video, photo, animated production and these agency partners as needed. 
  • Ability to creative translate feedback into action and refinement of concepts 
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple projects/tasks of varying complexities, lead and collaborate with agency partners, meet deadlines and work well under pressure. 
  • Ability to work independently on strategic issues with client, capable of managing complex projects. 
  • Ability to work with a large variety of clients. 
  • Accountable for influential presentation of campaign and concept presentations to clients, including Fresh Thyme + Meijer leadership.

Job Requirements:


  • Bachelor’s degree


  • Minimum of three years’ experience preferred.

Functional/Technical Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Experience as an art director, preferably in an agency or large corporate environment.
  • Understanding of and experience in branding, layout, color theory and typography in signage, print and digital media.
  • Fluency in current graphic design practices software, such as Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Strong conceptual skills.
  • Excellent organization and communication skills.
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to meet tight deadlines are essential for a fast-paced environment.
  • Versed in relevant graphic design and web software package.
