Position Purpose:

The Development & Communications Director will work collaboratively with all agency Program Managers and Directors to ensure all agency goals are being met. This position is responsible for fundraising and marketing of all programs. This position also manages a small team, including a Marketing Specialist. The agency is searching for a team leader who is motivated to grow the agency fundraising portfolio to 20% agency budget achieved through fundraising.

Responsibilities:

1. Donor and Foundation Development

  • Cultivate and maintain donor relationships to deliver on major gifts program 
  • Develop relationships with foundation officers to increase foundation awareness and interest 
  • Oversee daily operations of identified roles, providing program leadership, evaluation, and direction 
  • Supervise the research, development, and completion of local, state, and national grant opportunities 
  • Provide original content and research applicable written work for compelling stories and statistics benefitting agency program growth through grants, gifts, and successful proposals 
  • Integrate planned giving strategies and manage calendar of appeals 
  • Develops content for agency fundraising materials, electronic files, and databases 
  • Writes proposals and reports in support of foundation outreach and compliance 
  • Work collaboratively with managers and directors to successfully complete all required reporting, licensing, and accreditation processes

2. Fundraising Events

  • Manage the coordination of fundraising, marketing, and outreach events 
  • Attend local development committee meetings, chamber of commerce events, rotaries, referral groups, and other networking opportunities to source perspective donors and clients 
  • Participate and engage the community by leveraging opportunities to develop and support agency programs and services 
  • Organize and schedule collaborative agency communications, training, and meetings to positively impact marketing and development outcomes 
  • Support and tracking for the Anne McManus Fund Committee 
  • Support of the Next Generation Leadership Group

3. Marketing

  • Responsible for 360 degree marketing 
  • Manage and edit social media content promoting agency services 
  • Supervise the research, acquisition, and scheduling of social media content and advertising 
  • Supervise and participate in community outreach activities on behalf of agency, including meetings, presentations, conference attendance, education sessions, and vendor tables 
  • Supervise and participate in the creation, editing, and management of online forms, newsletters, graphics, and media releases 
  • Supervise the monitoring and benchmarking of online work using analytical tools 

4. Staff Management

  • Interview, hire, and provide orientation to new marketing and development staff 
  • Participate actively in weekly meetings to check in with team progress 
  • Develop and review department goals, as well as take appropriate actions to identify and mitigate issues 
  • Supervise and coordinate performance reviews 
  • Manage marketing and development budget, increasing outcomes to 20% of agency budget 

5. Professional Responsibilities

  • Innovate and influence change through participation in staff meetings, in-service training, consultation meetings, and workshops 
  • Complete work according to established guidelines, budgets, and timelines 
  • Keep supervisor informed of potential problem situations, as well as suggestions for improvements in programming and agency functioning 
  • Maintain continuing education and ethical and professional standards as required by the state, Minnesota rules, and agency policies 
  • Contribute to the agency’s overall well-being and effectiveness by fully communicating needs, ideas, and concerns directly to other team members, and supervisor as needed 

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in development, marketing, communications, or related field and at least four years of experience with the Minnesota philanthropy and/or grant-making process. Knowledge of and connection to Minnesota government and philanthropic grant makers required. Must possess excellent in-person and written communication skills using expository, descriptive, persuasive, and narrative styles. It is imperative the Development & Communications Director possesses strong interpersonal skills, is focused on customer service and has an acute attention to detail. Must have a passion for and commitment to the agency’s child-focused, family services mission and values.

Desired Qualifications:

The preferred candidate will be a Certified Fundraising Executive. A successful candidate will be experienced in writing proposals, grants, and capital campaigns that have resulted in high-level awards.

Salary: $60,000-70,000 DOQ.
