Overview:

Macalester College seeks to hire a Digital Content Assistant to work in its Communications and Marketing department. This position provides editing, production, and project support for digital content including web pages, photo galleries, daily e-newsletter, college events calendar, digital signage, and broadcast email messages for alumni and parents. The Digital Content Assistant supports departments and offices in updating their websites and identifies and resolves website quality issues such as broken links and misspellings. This position reports to the Director of Digital Engagement and Public Affairs.

Responsibilities:

  • Supports digital content production for the college website including posting news stories, creating photo galleries, updating major section pages, preparing slides for digital signage, and managing content for the campus map. Consults with departments and offices about website content requirements and assists departments with website content and navigation updates. 
  • Produces broadcast email messages for alumni and parent audiences using email management tool. Compiles submitted content, formats images, develops and sends proofs, imports email lists, and schedules sends. 
  • Compiles and edits content for Mac Daily and college events calendar. Coordinates review and production process, working with content providers and proofreaders to resolve questions and ensure accuracy. 
  • Uses web governance tools to monitor the college website, checking and resolving issues with broken links, misspellings, and accessibility compliance. Periodically reviews centrally maintained website content to identify areas where updates are needed. 
  • Demonstrates a commitment to equity, inclusion, and diversity. Actively engages in learning and practicing principles of social justice and inclusion to increase individual capacity to support institutional changes that create and sustain a more welcoming and inclusive environment across the Macalester community.

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or GED required, Bachelor’s degree preferred. 
  • 1-3 years professional experience in communications or related field. 
  • Solid communication skills including writing, editing, proofreading, and presenting to individuals or small groups. 
  • Experience with e-newsletter production and distribution. 
  • Ability to manage multiple projects in various stages, including ongoing work and special or shorter-term projects. Takes responsibility for assignments and ensures completion on deadline. 
  • Proficient in office-suite applications (e.g., Google Apps, Microsoft Office). Experience with broadcast email platforms (e.g., MailChimp), web content management systems (e.g., WordPress), Adobe Photoshop, digital asset management systems (e.g., ContentDM), and/or learning other communications technologies. Basic understanding of HTML preferred. 
  • Exceptional customer service orientation and attention to detail. Experience helping non-technical people solve technical problems. 
  • Ability and willingness to support, respect and commit to embracing diverse backgrounds, values, and points of view in order to foster an inclusive work environment.
