Charged with coordinating and creating digital content for the university’s social media accounts and other key digital platforms. Responsible for creating, posting, sharing, and interacting with Marquette’s digital communities of followers, fans, etc. daily, including developing digital content, scheduling content ahead of time and flagging and/or responding as needed to follower inquiries beyond normal business hours.

Will create content for social media and other digital content platforms such as Marquette Today– including writing and publishing feature stories, creating multimedia pieces and capturing photography in support of content needs, with a focus on telling stories that align with the university’s brand messaging and university messaging architecture. Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Create digital content for Marquette University accounts in social media (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, Google Business, and new platforms as they arise), designed to foster engagement with/among the Marquette community.
  2. Collaborate with Office of University Relations colleagues on the production of relevant video content for digital properties as needed.
  3. Monitor and track appropriate content marketing metrics to measure content performance and engagement, including content published onMarquette Today, video impressions and downloads, email open rates, and key pages on Marquette.edu
  4. Create content for social media and other digital content platforms – including writing and publishing feature stories, creating multimedia pieces and capturing photography in support of content needs, with a focus on telling stories that align with the university’s brand messaging and university messaging architecture. This may include adapting existing content such as articles in print publications into visually interesting digital features, infographics, or listicles for use in digital content platforms.
  5. Respond to questions and approve content in the Parents Facebook Group, under the direction and oversight of the supervisor.
  6. Build advertising campaigns in Facebook/Instagram and other social media platforms to promote digital content to key audiences, including writing copy, assembling visual assets and tracking performance in alignment with other content performance metrics.
  7. Recommend and support the implementation of long-term strategies for the use of existing and emerging media by university accounts.8. Assist in teaching and communicating best practices for social media communication for managers of affiliated Marquette accounts.
  8. Teach and support OUR interns who support social media and digital content functions.
  9. Participate in university communication team’s 24/7 on-call weekly rotation.
  10. Maintain a college “beat” as part of the university communication team.
  11. Perform other duties and responsibilities as required, assigned, or requested.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Requires a bachelor’s degree.
  • One to three years of relevant experience with knowledge of social media and digital content creation tactics.
  • This position requires the ability to identify communication and content needs and develop materials that engage, inspire, and build awareness among key audiences.
  • Excellent, professional writing and editing, working a high level of creativity.
  • Knowledge of best practices in content creation for social and distributed media.
  • Proficiency in media analytics with ability to distill data and translate into actionable information that guides new content.
  • Requires attention and responsiveness to social media during off hours, and ability to work quickly to engage and respond to issues, including disseminating university statements and responding to community inquiries.

Requires a working knowledge of:

  • Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok, YouTube, Google. 
  • Social media analytics software (for example: Sprout Social) 
  • Web Content Management software (for example: OU Campus) 
  • Content creation software (for example: Canva) 
  • Microsoft Office Suite 
  • Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere) 
  • Google Analytics or professional web traffic analysis programs
