The Director - Internal Communications develops and executes an internal communications strategy to engage and inform team members across the organization and leads a team to create engaging, inspiring, and informative content that strengthens our culture and advances our strategy. This role serves as a trusted advisor and primary communications partner to S&C Electric Company’s President and CEO, responsible for developing the executive communication strategy and day-to-day implementation of messaging to support the company’s purpose, vision, mission, and strategic initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Internal Communications Strategy Development: Spearhead the development and execution of a robust internal communications strategy, ensuring alignment with overarching strategic objectives. Design and implement targeted programs that foster employee engagement, channeling efforts towards effective communication practices within the organization. Regularly assess and refine strategies based on feedback and evolving organizational needs, ensuring that internal communications play a pivotal role in promoting a cohesive and informed workplace environment. 
  • Leadership Communications Strategy: Create and implement a leadership communications strategy in alignment with the company’s messaging to ensure employees understand the company’s direction, goals, and initiatives to drive business growth. 
  • Internal Communications Planning: Lead the internal communication team in owning and defining a communications calendar to plan and align critical messages and track the audience, method, and rollout approach for crucial campaigns. 
  • Objective-Driven Messaging: Direct the internal communication team in translating business objectives, company performance, and management philosophy into internal stories and messages that are compelling, with a particular focus on creating emotional content and stories in multiple formats and channels to help bring our purpose, priorities, culture, and values to life. 
  • Diverse Communication Campaigns: Deliver innovative and creative internal communication campaigns with consideration to S&C’s team member diversity. 
  • Feedback Mechanism Enhancement: Partner with internal communications management to improve feedback mechanisms and impact tracking internally to allow us to be data-driven in making recommendations on future communications. 
  • Performance Analytics and Evolution: Design key metrics to evaluate internal communication campaigns. Measure and advise on areas to evolve based on data, optimize current internal communication channels, and explore process improvements and new, innovative ways to reach and engage a diverse range of internal audiences. 
  • CEO Communication Oversight: Manage end-to-end CEO-related communications, including monthly messaging, town halls, events, quarterly leadership meetings, annual updates, recognition programs, speeches, video messages, and presentations. 
  • Stakeholder Engagement and Collaboration: Drive clearly defined CEO messages across all channels, reaching and engaging key stakeholders, including leaders, team members, customers, and communities, and collaborate with corporate communications and government relations to develop targeted messages to media, policymakers, and other influencers. 
  • CEO Communication and Reputation Elevation: Ensure the highest quality of CEO communications and reputation by partnering with the Chief of Staff to research, write, and fact-check all communications materials and collaborate with the Corporate Communications team to identify and implement external opportunities for enhancing the CEO’s image. 
  • Internal Voice Amplification: Proactively solicit the voice of various internal audiences and share that information with the CEO to drive more impactful content and communications. 

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communication, Marketing, English, Business, or a related field. 
  • 8+ years of demonstrated experience developing senior leadership communication strategies and developing CEO-level communications. 
  • Expert in writing with extensive experience in storytelling and message development. 
  • Experience managing an internal communications team at various levels of tenure. 
  • Experience creating and executing content strategies that engage audiences, and proven ability to build relationships and keep a finger on the organization’s pulse. 
  • Ability to amplify the company culture, values, and strategic goals in CEO communications. 
  • Ability to connect dots, identify industry and business trends, and showcase the company’s purpose and culture. 
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment in understanding the sensitivities of particular audiences and tailoring messages to specific circumstances. 
  • Strong project management abilities, with superb writing and copyediting skills. 
  • Ability to write and work quickly, be self-starting, and be punctual in the preparation of materials. 
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills, with demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced working environment. 
  • Impeccable attention to detail with an analytical mindset and outstanding problem-solving skills. 
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills to establish meaningful relationships built on mutual trust and respect, navigate and resolve conflict, moderate behaviors, and foster collaborative working relationships amongst a diverse audience. 
  • Excellent communication skills (written, verbal, listening, and presentation). 
  • Able to liaise with key stakeholders at all levels, from senior executives to support staff, and present information and messaging compellingly to achieve buy-in. 
  • Sound financial acumen and numerical ability to manage budgetary resources to maximum effectiveness.
