Position Summary:

The Director of Communication will activate AP’s business strategy through internal, external and executive communications. This role will work closely with the Corporate Business Services team, including Human Resources and U.S. regional leaders maximize employee engagement and increase enterprise brand awareness in the marketplace. The Director of Communication will report to AP’s EVP, Business Services.

This position will lead the development and implementation of a strategic communications plan.

Key Accountabilities:

Leadership

  • Establish, lead and scale the strategic communication function at AP at a national level 
  • Develop a cohesive communication strategy to include all regions and support the OneAP strategy 
  • Partner with stakeholders in regional marketing, human resources, IT, field operations, legal and members of the executive leadership team to effectively activate key initiatives 
  • Lead crisis communication planning to guide organization’s response to operational and business crisis scenarios 
  • Develop key performance indicators for all internal, external and executive communications; implement consistent measurement and actionable reporting practices 
  • Manage agency partnerships that elevate the AP brand and employee experience 
  • Understanding the challenges faced in our industry and developing respectful and effective communications around unique situations

External communication

  • Oversee enterprise PR and corporate reputation strategy nationally, while partnering with regional marketing leaders to oversee key market activity 
  • Manage media relations throughout all regions 
  • Experience in leading through crisis management and preemptive planning 
  • Lead and activate executive visibility and thought leadership strategy at a national level and in key local markets 
  • Partner with regional teams to differentiate and raise visibility of the AP brand

Internal communication

  • Develop and manage board level and shareholder communications 
  • Oversee all enterprise-level internal communications channels, including management and continual improvement of existing employee channels, along with new platforms 
  • Work closely with executives and leaders to enable effective team communication and maintain strong organizational trust 
  • Implement an employee communications strategy designed to build engagement 
  • Partner with Human Resources team to educate and celebrate employees according to AP values 
  • Guide and facilitate employee feedback, using input to optimize internal communication and organizational culture

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Public Relations, Communications, Marketing, Business or related field of study 
  • 10+ years of business communications experience in a multi-site, national organization 
  • Awareness of and proficiency with communications technologies 
  • Experience in stakeholder and community engagement 
  • Extensive list of national media contacts 
  • Strong and confident leadership experience and experience working in a matrixed organization 
  • Prior experience in the construction industry is preferred 
  • Prior experience working in companies which are based in our regional office locations Colorado, Texas and Arizona is preferred
