CommonBond Communities invites qualified applicants to apply for The Director of Communications and Content Strategy for our Central office location located in Saint Paul, MN.

The Director of Communications and Content Strategy position will have a primary focus on external communications and connecting with CommonBond’s audience of supporters, volunteers, and prospects. The Director identifies critical audiences, tailors messaging, and monitors the delivery of excellent content. Main duties would include the developing of a multi-channel fundraising communications strategy to support CommonBond’s annual fund campaign(s), aligning brand and communications – both internally and externally – and ensuring organizational messaging is integrated into all communications materials. Supplemental responsibilities include coordination and support with other CommonBond departments on internal needs. The role will oversee two communications positions and the Events Manager.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND ASSOCIATED TASKS

Oversees CommonBond’s Annual Fund Strategy

  • Oversee and create annual content strategy plan focused on fundraising including oversight of the external editorial, calendar, annual fundraising campaigns, fundraising events, messages, and content with a goal of building CommonBond’s individual giving program through donor acquisition, and retention. 
  • Set and monitor performance of a digital communications strategy that supports fundraising efforts. 
  • Oversight and management of communications and events staff. 
  • Develop and execute language for public fundraising campaigns.

Ensure Consistent and Clear Organizational Communication

  • Develop and update key organizational messages. 
  • Ensure consistent brand management including all channels and teams are working toward the same messaging and vision. 
  • Ensure that CommonBond’s messaging uses an asset-based approach and emphasizes the humanity of those we serve and community members with shared experiences. 
  • Oversee the creation and design of collateral materials. 
  • Responsible for resident identification and engagement (i.e., storytelling) including the management of photo shoots. 
  • Ensure all work with residents is conducted with respect, allowing them to share their story authentically.

Internal Support

  • Train internal leadership for high-level messages and guidance on external speaking appearances. 
  • Create and maintains marketing and communications policies for the organization. 
  • Coordinate with other internal leaders on external communications needs (would be final sign-off for marketing and leasing, human resources, and department needs with an external communications focus). 
  • Support communications needs on grand openings or property events in coordination with real estate team. 
  • Support crisis response efforts.

Administrative Support

  • Manage overall marketing budget including direct mail spending. 
  • Oversee collateral production. 
  • Manage external vendors (I.e. direct mail, PR and media relations agency, digital advertising, etc.) 
  • Participate in organizational and department-wide planning.

EDUCATION

  • Bachelor’s degree with an emphasis in communications, public relations, or a closely related field. 
  • 5+ years of experience in communications, annual fundraising, and/or content strategy. 
  • Excellent written communication skills. 
  • Experience creating and executing nonprofit fundraising strategy. 
  • Ability to work independently, establish priorities and follow through on completion of tasks. 
  • Experience managing a team and providing coaching/development to direct reports.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 30 pounds. 
  • Ability to walk up and down flights of stairs

  • Ability to reach above shoulders. 
  • Ability to open and close files drawers. 
  • Ability to file documents for extended periods of time.
