The Duluth Seaway Port Authority (DSPA) is a public agency created by state statute in 1955 to expand and improve facilities at the Port of Duluth-Superior in anticipation of the opening of the St. Lawrence Seaway in 1959. Two years later, with $10 million in public funding, the Port Authority created the 120-acre Clure Public Marine Terminal, the port's only general cargo facility. The Port Authority also owns and manages multiple waterfront properties, including the Clure Public Marine Terminal, 26-acre Clure Terminal Expansion, Erie Pier, and an industrial park near the Duluth International Airport.

The Duluth Seaway Port Authority is seeking a seasoned professional to manage its external communications and marketing programs.

As a member of its leadership team, this individual will be responsible for coordinating communications strategies and marketing initiatives for the Port Authority and for Duluth Cargo Connect, maintaining consistent organizational messaging across multiple platforms.

The ideal candidate must have expertise in media relations, community engagement, public relations, marketing, publications and special event coordination, and be proficient in managing digital content and photography files.

This individual will serve as the organization’s chief spokesperson and must possess highly effective communication skills, verbal & written; be confident in media interviews, particularly in front of a camera, and in delivering presentations in public forums.

The selected candidate will be expected to monitor and collaborate on port-related projects and transportation issues being addressed at city, state and federal policymaking levels.

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in mass communications, journalism, public relations and/or marketing with a minimum of 10 years of experience in a related field. Demonstrated computer skills in everything from Microsoft Office Suite and Google Docs to Adobe InDesign and Wordpress. Working knowledge of Great Lakes maritime and intermodal transportation a plus.
