The University of Wisconsin—Green Bay (UWGB) seeks an experienced and innovative leader to serve as the Director of Communication and Marketing. Under the direction of the Associate Chancellor for External Affairs, the director’s role is to position the University strategically, both internally and externally, with its many and various constituencies. This position is responsible for providing strategic vision and leadership for an integrated communications, public relations and marketing program in support of the University’s strategic plan to support student recruitment, retention and fundraising goals. The Director will work in partnership with senior level administrators including vice chancellors, deans, directors and the leaders of areas including admissions, information technology, advancement and alumni relations. The position will oversee communications and marketing including strategic communication planning, media and public relations, publications, event marketing, branding, social media, web communications, multi-media productions, marketing plans, graphic styles and advertising. The director manages the department budget and supervises a staff of six.

This position will include the following responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic vision and leadership for an integrated communications and marketing operations in support of the University’s mission.
  • Conduct market research and build brand identity.
  • Develop, implement and evaluate a University wide communication and marketing plan consistent with the University’s mission and strategic plan.
  • Articulate clear communication themes and messages for campus dissemination.
  • Provide guidance and oversee all aspects of communications and marketing including strategic communication planning, media and public relations, publications, event marketing, branding, social media, web communications, multi-media productions, marketing plans, graphic styles and advertising.
  • Work closely with the Vice Chancellor for University Advancement in support of advancement and alumni relations.
  • Collaborate with the Executive Director of the Weidner Center and the Director of Athletics in support of Athletics marketing and community relations.
  • Collaborate with and coordinate marketing efforts of individual marketing plans with specific departments or units to produce a consistent campus-wide message.
  • Serve as a public relations spokesperson for the University.
  • Advise the chancellor on public communication strategies and messages.
  • Coordinate or write speeches for the chancellor.
  • Serve as a member of the Emergency Operation Center team and manage campus crisis communication.
  • Develop and manage strategies to inform and influence public opinion.
  • Collaborate with the legislative liaison to assist with comprehensive legislative communication strategy.
  • Oversee arrangements for news conferences and media access to campus events.
  • Assist and oversee major University events.
  • Oversee the writers who prepare press releases, publications and other documents.
  • Serve as a member of University, community or higher education committees.
  • Participate in professional, civic, community or university organizations to enhance visibility and marketing efforts.
  • Build a strong team of professionals who are responsible for various aspects of public relations, including marketing, media relations, publications, events and social media.
  • Supervise and provide guidance to the Communication and Marketing staff.
  • Manage budgets and other resources for Communications and Marketing.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree at time of application
  • 5 years of experience in marketing and/or communications

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Proven experience in public relations working with diverse constituent groups
  • Knowledge of and experience in applying principles of integrated marketing and communications

This position also requires a strong commitment to integrity and quality work products, highly refined management skills, demonstrated ability to delegate work, and the ability and willingness to hold direct reports accountable.
