The position of the communications director is executing and overseeing communications and media relations strategy that elevates the Spartan College of Aeronautics and Technology brand. The ideal candidate will be a resourceful and experienced leader who can flex across multiple marketing disciplines, including social media. This role requires an analytic thinker who is comfortable pulling market data from disparate data sources to uncover opportunities that improve the performance of our communication efforts. The Director of Communications will develop a deep understanding of our target consumers and leverage those insights to influence our overall marketing strategy. Critical functional experience is required across media and content creation.

This is a fast-paced market that occasionally requires irregular work hours and quick turnarounds, so flexibility is critical for success in this position.

Essential Functions:

  • Deliver thought leadership, planning, and execution around public/media relations and content. 
  • Define communications strategy to constantly improve branding, awareness, reputation, and earned media on all digital and offline channels, including new media platforms. 
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for earned media and social channels, consult with various stakeholders on communication planning and content. 
  • Develop and implement PR campaigns, messaging, and brand initiatives. 
  • Writing and producing communication content. 
  • Ability to establish and collaborate with community/industry partners on events and communication campaigns. May require some travel. 
  • Manage and accelerate our strategy around public relations (events, stories, news releases). 
  • Build process documentation and keep records of campaign implementations and optimizations. 
  • Work cross-functionally across analytics and reporting.

Knowledge / Skills:

  • Creative thinking, technically capable, and a passion for all aspects of Marketing. 
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. 
  • Understands communication and social channels and escalates appropriately. 
  • Strong initiative; able to self-manage, and lead others. 
  • Able to work through, initiate and complete projects, anticipating requirements and alerting channel owners as needed.

Education and Work Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred 
  • 10+ years of marketing, social, and media experience. 
  • Education marketing experience preferred. Aviation experience a plus. 
  • Experience with earned media channels across campaign setup, tracking, and measurement. 
  • Demonstrated success with social media, brand amplification, and event promotion. 
  • Ability to collaborate internally and with community/industry organizations. 
  • Success in organizing communications across one or more brands.
