The Director of Community Engagement is a pivotal position in shaping and managing the organization's social media presence. This position focuses on developing and implementing strategic social media campaigns to enhance brand visibility, audience engagement, and organizational objectives. Key responsibilities include leading a team of social media professionals, creating captivating content across platforms like Instagram, X, LinkedIn, YouTube, and Facebook, analyzing performance metrics, and staying ahead of emerging trends to refine strategies. This position will collaborate across departments, manage budgets, and foster relationships with influencers and stakeholders while ensuring consistent brand messaging. The Director of Community Engagement will ensure the organization's mission and vision resonate effectively with its global audience. This position reports directly to the Sr. Director of Brand Marketing and Creative Strategy and is based in our Chicago headquarters.

We are seeking an individual with a Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Journalism, English, Creative Writing, Marketing, Digital Marketing, Public Relations, or related discipline or equivalent experience.  A minimum of 5 years of related agency or business experience is required. Social Media Management or Director experience at a non-profit is preferred.

Essential Job Responsibilities Include:

Digital and Social Media Strategy:

  • Develop and maintain a strategic vision and priorities for The Fellowship's social media activities, guided by specific, measurable objectives that correspond with broader business goals. This includes determining optimal timing, channels, and methods for engaging The Fellowship’s target audience (Evangelical Christians) on social media.
  • Implement The Fellowship’s social media strategy with an emphasis on empowering and informing audiences through initial awareness efforts; increasing awareness of the organization's vision, services, and global leadership while fostering audience involvement with mission-driven content; and cultivating audience engagement to strengthen connection and affinity for The Fellowship.
  • Leverage social media platforms to engage our target audience, fostering meaningful connections with the land of Israel and the Jewish people.
  • Develop campaigns highlighting The Fellowship’s activities in delivering humanitarian aid and support to Israel, Ukraine, and Jewish communities globally.
  • Oversee high-profile social media accounts on platforms including Facebook, Instagram, X, LinkedIn, YouTube, and other emerging channels.
  • Track social media metrics, deliver consistent reports on campaign effectiveness, audience development, and engagement, and utilize analytics insights to enhance the impact of future social media campaigns and content.

Content Creation and Community Management:

  • Oversee and support the development and curation of engaging, impactful content for various social media platforms.
  • Ensure that all content is aligned with The Fellowship’s content strategy and brand guidelines.
  • Lead influencer strategy, user-generated content, and social media storytelling efforts.
  • Oversee community management efforts, ensuring all comments, messages and inquiries receive a response in a timely and professional manner.

Cross-functional Collaboration:

  • Partner with Marketing leadership and internal stakeholders to build a comprehensive, full-funnel strategy that enhances engagement, boost participation, and contributes to achieving revenue targets.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with peers in Paid Media, Content, Brand, Constituent Experience, Development, Advocacy and more.
  • Work closely with the Global Chief Executive Officer and Chief Marketing Officer to develop and implement social media strategies aligned with the organization's vision.
  • Collaborates with the US Board Chairman on developing and implementing social media strategy for the Fellowship.

Supervisory and Administrative:

  • Responsible for the hiring, onboarding, and continued development of direct reports.
  • Conduct regular check-ins to monitor progress, provide feedback, and offer guidance and support where needed to ensure staff are fully supported in their role.
  • Provides staff with the essential tools, knowledge, and resources required to fulfill their responsibilities efficiently, while also offering opportunities for ongoing professional development.
  • Coach and collaborate on goal-setting and professional development plans and conduct formal and informal performance conversations.
  • Develop, create, and manage standard operating procedures to ensure consistency and efficiency in operations.  

Technical & Individual Skills:

  • Exceptional verbal and written communication abilities to convey ideas clearly and effectively.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects with competing deadlines, even under pressure.
  • Strong focus on accuracy and organization to ensure high-quality outcomes.
  • Adept at developing innovative solutions tailored to dynamic trends and organizational activities.
  • Quickly respond to evolving situations and new challenges.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks with competing deadlines – at times, under pressure. 
  • Ability to be flexible and act quickly in response to new situations and current events affecting The Fellowship’s activities.
  • Availability to work during emergency response situations outside of standard office hours, including evenings and weekends.
  • Proficiency in using and navigating social media platforms, content creation and scheduling, online community management, and online advocacy.
  • Knowledge of and ability to navigate Google Analytics, Facebook Insights, and other social network analytics.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Basic understanding of current events in the Middle East and other global locations that affect The Fellowship’s activities.
  • Familiarity with Christian and Jewish traditions, as well as U.S. and Israeli cultures, especially regarding global events in the Middle East.
  • Familiarity with SEO principles to enhance content visibility and reach.
