Position Summary:

The Director of Development and Communications (DDC) enthusiastically spearheads efforts at RCC to cultivate, solicit and steward charitable funds, build connections, and deliver compelling messages to secure support for RCC’s work to address the needs of survivors of sexual assault and prevent sexual violence. This position works very closely with the Grants and Compliance Manager and supervises a .5 Development Assistant.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Donor Development

  • Create and execute a strategy to cultivate a large sustainable base of individual and corporate donors. 
  • Maintain community partnerships and donor relations. 
  • Develop and implement communication tools for attracting funding resources including: annual report, event sponsor cultivation, year-end fundraising and donor recognition. 
  • Ensure the maintenance and maximum use of the agency’s donor database. 
  • Support the ED and the Board of Directors with ongoing major donor relationships. 
  • Ensure timely and accurate acknowledgements for donations that compel continuous giving.

Fund Development and Communications

  • Lead the development and execution of fresh, integrated communication and fundraising platforms that compel community engagement, volunteerism and financial support. 
  • Promote traditional and social media strategies and prepare ED and program directors for frequent media engagement. 
  • Develop innovative, creative and compelling messages that encourage the community to financially support RCC’s mission, and maintain an inventory of printed materials and other items to support delivering messages. 
  • Maintain an informative and engaging website that provides resources to survivors and their support networks, engages the community even before they need our services, and increases recurrent giving. 
  • Develop, manage and refine fundraising communication pieces.
  • Coordinate RCC’s membership within Community Shares of Wisconsin (CSW). Ensure RCC’s eligibility for funds by representing RCC on the CSW board, attending board meetings and committee meetings, completing work hours and coordinating RCC workplace giving presentations as well as internal giving campaign. Maximize participation in CSW’s annual The Big Share event. 
  • Provide consultation to staff to ensure all external resources have a consistent RCC brand and message. 
  • Collaborate with RCC staff to identify and develop new and compelling ways of telling the RCC story to attract media coverage and community support. 
  • Maintain the agency’s Facebook page, Instagram account and other social media with frequent, current, engaging and persuasive content. Potentially develop an agency blog. 
  • Develop press releases, newspaper articles and magazine content to promote the agency’s resources, educate the public on sexual violence, respond to public events and support public policy and other initiatives that benefit survivors of sexual assault. 
  • Lead the agency, if the need is so determined, through a name change and rebranding upon completion of the 2020-2023 Strategic Plan. 
  • Remain current on advancements and changes that are pertinent to raising money within the community, the organization’s mission and programs, and the development profession.

Events Management

  • Work with and staff the Fundraising Committee, which is comprised of board members and other community member volunteers, to forecast and evaluate current and potential fundraising events and actively participate in the success of fundraising activities. 
  • Coordinate and staff April’s Sexual Assault Awareness Month activities, including social media promotion, special events, collaborative activities with other agencies, and merchandise usage. 
  • Plan, execute, and evaluate the agency’s signature annual Java Jive event which includes securing sponsorship, securing silent auction, food, coffee, raffle, music and related donations, securing and working with the venue, coordinating involved staff and volunteers, and supporting board engagement. 

Required Qualifications:

  • 2 years experience leading fund development. 
  • Enthusiasm about increasing public perception and awareness of RCC and survivors of sexual assault. 
  • Clear understanding of and commitment to RCC’s mission. 
  • Ability to operate at an executive level. 
  • Demonstrated experience and success with event production. 
  • Demonstrated experience with social media. 
  • Demonstrated experience with website management. 
  • Demonstrated experience managing donor software. 
  • Excellence in organization and project management. 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

FTE: 1.0

Compensation: $45,800 – $51,500
