The Director of Development, under the direction of the President and the Senior Director of Development, is responsible for managing a portfolio or current and prospective major, corporate and planned giving donors. Execute various development initiatives for UnityPoint Health - Meriter. Responsible for reaching annual contact and revenue goals through prospect identification, cultivation, proposal development, solicitation, recognition, and stewardship.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Minimum of five years of professional experience in the development or related field
  • Experience in a complex organization, Hospital, health care system, or non-profit organization
  • Experience in grateful patient development or similar population, and business community

Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Ability to connect with business, non-profit community leaders
  • Exemplary oral, written and public speaking communications skills
  • Ability to work in committee, team and group settings
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to engage in vigorous intellectual discussion with medical personnel
  • Ability to compassionately connect to patient experience
  • Comfort level with senior Executives, CEOs, Board of Directors and Community Leaders and Meriter’s employees
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and follow-through skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills necessary in working with external and internal constituencies
  • Strong computer, Excel and prospect database management skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with all levels of Hospital personnel and Volunteers
  • High level of motivation, creativity and problem solving
  • High level of independence and determination to successfully complete all steps of a major gift cycle
  • Maintain at all times a high level of respect, courtesy and dignity for all and honor the inviolability of ethical behavior, honesty and integrity in all that you do
  • Ability to be fearless and have fun

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Graduate or advanced degree preferred
  • Experience in a multi-institutional Hospital, health care system, or a large high energy and complex organization
  • Capital campaign experience
  • Planned giving experience
  • Major Gifts fund raising experience
  • Experience in grateful patient development approach or similar population
  • Experience with aging and retirement demographic
  • Experience with patient community with significant health issues
