Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE) invites applications for a full-time Director of Digital Marketing to join our Marketing Communications department. Under the direction of the Vice President of Marketing & Community Engagement, the Director of Digital Marketing will provide leadership in web and interactive communications and the growing role they will play in supporting MSOE’s growth. The Director will also work collaboratively with key college stakeholders in crafting innovative and effective communication strategies using a variety of interactive communications including web, social media, PPC, SEM, SEO and other emerging media; define campus website uses and audiences, assess information needs, and design campus website to meet audience needs; and work in close partnership with information technologists on campus partners and vendors.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Leads and directs university digital marketing including MSOE website content and serves as lead administrator of all institutional social media accounts. Provides oversight and guidance to faculty and staff departments. Regularly consults with and serves as a resource for enrollment, academic chairs, development/alumni and leadership on web and digital enhancements including roadmap of future enhancements to leverage emerging media.
  • Daily maintenance and updating of university website and integration with social media and all university communications channels to support and serve MSOE's various communities. Perform quality assurance checks on the website for accuracy and performance working with designated web content leads from each department/area. Responsible for building new web pages, consulting on development of new websites, and overseeing architecture of website.
  • Provides direct oversight of the Video and Multimedia Manager, digital marketing assistant (student worker position) and all external web design/development, paid and organic search, digital media and marketing agencies. Train and supervise staff as assigned.
  • Responsible for developing and executing strategies to grow and maximize online optimization and conversions and support business goals that include enrollment and fundraising growth through digital channels including but not limited to search marketing, search optimization, and display advertising.
  • Utilize metrics that measure campaign ROI, content accuracy, and search relevance. Utilize analytics tools to monitor and understand website content performance and relevance. Monitor, measure and reports performance against industry-standard engagement metrics and develop recommendations for ongoing improvements and enhancements to continually improve MSOE website and digital properties.
  • Develop working relationships with campus constituents including Information Technology and serve as co-chair MSOE's Web & Interactive Steering Committee that provides oversight and governance of all university web and digital communication channels. Develop campus policies, based on institutional priorities and strategies and industry standards and guidelines.
  • Develop and implement training for campus constituencies including professional development on such topics as social media; identify problem areas, develop solutions, and create on-line resources. Explain web design and purpose, and supervise campus web authors to ensure reliability and consistency of websites.
  • Maintain currency in technical knowledge and understanding of practical web design, management of websites/locations, and new trends in web development and electronic communications.
  • Prepare software documentation and recommend changes and improvements; test new software, and create documentation for the implementation of new or modified application software.
  • Maintain inventory and license information as needed, order materials, and manage day-to-day operations as required.
  • Supervise projects and/or manage daily operations of a project as assigned, which may include development and maintenance of project management information and documentation, such as task lists, charts, specifications.
  • Participate in institutional professional development and training.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in user experience, media/web design, technical or visual communication, marketing or a related field required
  • 5-7 years of experience using Web content management systems and user experience
  • Strong understanding of Google analytics and other analytics tools to interpret, make recommendations and drive optimal site performance
  • Strong understanding of social media platforms and analytics; ability and desire to stay current with the evolving trends of social media.
  • Established project management experience and strong organizational and communications skills
  • Basic HTML and/or CSS experience
  • Applicable work experience in higher education
  • Expertise with visual design techniques and Web usability principles
  • Visual design skills blended with information architecture, accessibility, and interface design principles.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and the ability to monitor and manage workflows to meet deadlines.
  • Confident communication, presentation, and listening skills.
  • Great attention to detail, editing, and proofreading.
  • Creative abilities in finding interesting and effective ways to present information and to generate new ideas.
  • Proficient with standard graphic design tools including Photoshop.
  • Knowledge and experience with search engine optimization (SEO) and marketing (SEM) techniques to improve Web site traffic.
  • Ability to use Google Analytics to monitor and report on content performance.
  • Basic experience with photography, video production, and nonlinear editing is a plus. 

Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before others. Ability to effectively communicate in both written and oral form.

Mathematical Skills: Ability to use numbers to solve problems involving concrete variables in standardized situations.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out written or oral instructions. 

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job the employee is largely sedentary, the ability to move is required. The employee is occasionally required to traverse within their work area as well as other areas on campus. 

Work Environment: This job operates in a professional office environment. This role uses standard office equipment, including but not limited to computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.
