The Director of Earned Media will guide the external communications for the Milwaukee Public Museum with the goals of elevating the brand, building stakeholder trust and driving visitor traffic through strategic messaging and storytelling.

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to:

  • Support our VP of Marketing, Communications and Visitor Experience in shaping overarching earned media strategies that support Museum strategic objectives
  • Develop high-quality written materials, including press releases, content for spokespeople, statements, pitches, messaging overviews and presentations 
  • Build relationships with key journalists and media partners
  • Prepare Museum staff for media engagements and act as Museum spokesperson when appropriate 
  • Lead media analysis, develop insights to inform broader strategy, and spot new opportunities
  • Generate regular reports to show media coverage and reach, including how PR efforts have supported specific campaigns
  • Collaborate with marketing, creative and digital teams to support integrated communications programs 
  • Coordinate PR efforts with external communications agency responsible for promotion of the future museum 
  • Must be flexible able to work early mornings, evenings, weekends, and odd shifts as needed.
  • Mentors and supervises one position

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university. Degree in journalism, marketing, public relations, media relations, communications or related field. 
  • Minimum 7 years related experience and/or training, preferably in the Milwaukee market.

Compensation:  $65,000/year
