Director of Engagement

Role Overview:

Wisconsin Hillel is seeking an Engagement Director to be responsible for building relationships with students, putting on high-quality events around campus, and helping inspire students to make a commitment to Jewish life. The role will collaborate with the program team, Adamah catering department, and senior Hillel leadership. The role will work under the direction of the Hillel Assistant Director while supervising engagement interns and managing the overall student internship experience.

The Engagement Director should have three key areas of skills/experience:

• Relentless relationship builder. Ability to connect with anyone, and understand next steps to deepen the relationship and leverage it to engage others. 
• Strategic programmer. Organization and confidence to initiate and run programs, comfort asking questions and seeking to continuously improve practices both personally and for the entire team. 
• Master manager. Ability to delegate, supervise, manage, collaborate, own, and support -- working with different staff and students and knowing when each action is most appropriate for each project.

Key Responsibilities and Skills:

Engagement

• Develop and implement a comprehensive strategy to map out campus and engage students at all levels – from incoming freshman through graduate students. 
• Conduct a large number of 1:1 meetings with students to build relationships and identify/develop student leaders. 
• Develop key relationships with campus professionals and student organizational partners. 
• Oversee programmatic and engagement activities, in partnership with colleagues and student leaders. 
• Track progress and evaluate impact using student data and qualitative program evaluations. 
• Recruit for in-depth learning opportunities and Birthright Israel trips.

Program Leadership and Support

• Supervise and manage Hillel’s internship program and serve as advisor to student leadership groups and other Hillel groups. 
• Initiate, plan for and implement new program initiatives serving unmet student needs and interests, building on existing Hillel programs. 
• Develop multi-channel and creative in-person marketing actions to build Hillel’s overall brand among students and to promote specific events and activities. 
• Oversee creative production and distribution of event materials and communications/publicity. 
• Participate fully in the shared work of Hillel, community events, staff meetings/trainings, and other duties as assigned. 
• Manage programs to engage large numbers of students – i.e. “welcome week” and large holiday celebrations.

Required Education and Experience:

• 2-4 years professional experience; experience in nonprofit leadership, Jewish experiential education or higher education is a plus. 
• An entrepreneurial spirit - things may not always go according to plan, but you understand that ambiguity is part of developing great new opportunities, and you learn from past experience. 
• Strong project management and communication skills; effective at communicating with a variety of stakeholders including students, parents, university partners, and senior staff. 
• A commitment to pluralism and comfort with different Jewish identities so you may act as a role model and mentor for emerging Jewish adults. 
• Ability to work nontraditional hours and manage time efficiently.

Preferred Knowledge and Skills:

• Experience working well independently, collaborating, managing up, and taking direction. 
• Strong attention to detail. 
• Experience making data-driven decisions and strategies, familiarity with Customer Relationship Management (CRM) and other online platforms is a plus. 
• Proven ability to market a wide range of programs to a wide range of audiences. 
• Demonstrated ability to learn quickly, create effective systems/processes, juggle multiple tasks, and adhere to deadlines in a lively, fast-paced work environment. 
• Experience in various social media systems and advertising systems like Facebook, Instagram, email marketing, and social media management platforms.
