JOB SUMMARY:

We are looking for a Director of Events who is passionate about the city of Minneapolis and the mission of Meet Minneapolis. Our perfect candidate enjoys blending creativity, strategic foresight, and meticulous organizational skills to execute successful and memorable events that enhance the brand and reputation of our city and our organization.  The work of our Director of Events results in a WOW every time.  

This position is the primary contact and event planner for all Meet Minneapolis events. Under the direction of the SVP, Destination Sales, this position ensures consistent preparation and execution of events to Meet Minneapolis standards.   

The Director of Events Services works with assigned staff to develop details and logistics for internal and client-facing events. Responsibilities include end-to-end design, planning and management of the event including but not limited to securing locations, signing contracts, and ensuring payment for services. Events may be on-site, local, or at remote locations, including outside Minneapolis.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversee planning, management, and execution of all Meet Minneapolis sponsored events.
  • Convene project teams to coordinate all stakeholders and establish a clear vision for each event to align with branding and strategy
  • Maintain shared documentation and management of all events
  • Develop event themes, briefs, and creative in cooperation with Marketing
  • Create project work plan to include goals, timeline, budgets, stakeholders (internal and external) and post-event follow-up 
  • Issue RFPs, secure necessary permits/certificates of insurance, execute and manage contracts with any vendors, venues, and service providers
  • Maintain knowledge/inventory of suppliers and service providers as well as event industry trends & changing regulations.
  • Assist in management of tradeshow experience including tradeshow booth supplies, activation ideas and coordination of materials needed.
  • Serve as subject matter expert regarding planning and execution of events
  • Maintain certifications and accreditations
  • Other event duties and special projects as needed.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree with emphasis in the field of business, hospitality management, event management, marketing, or similar area of study (three years of experience may substitute for four-year degree)
  • Three to five years of experience working in marketing, communications, hospitality, and/or event management
  • Highly proficient use of Microsoft suite of products, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, SharePoint & Teams as well as project management tools
  • Experience in use of social media and applied technology for event planning such as email campaigns and ticketing systems
  • Valid driver’s license

SALARY

  • $75,000 - $95,000 starting range for annual base salary plus bonus plan.
