The Director of Marketing & Communications is responsible for strategy, implementation, and measurement of University of Wisconsin - Platteville’s integrated marketing and public relations plan, website presence, social media presence, digital advertising, email communications and analytics.

The Director will create and strategically execute a plan to increase UW-Platteville’s public profile, visibility, and brand–recognition at the regional and national level using public relations, marketing, web and social media communication, targeted print and electronic communication, leadership communication, etc.

Responsibilities:

The Director of Marketing & Communications will:

  • Provide strategic leadership and direction for the University’s marketing, communications, and branding priorities 
  • Lead the Marketing and Communications Department with a team of experienced, creative, marketing professionals. 
  • Champion the University of Wisconsin-Platteville’s brand, serve as the brand ambassador, leading recruitment and representational marketing 
  • Lead communications with multiple groups including prospective and current students and families; alumni; faculty and staff; supporters, individuals and industry partners; community leaders; local and national media; higher education innovators; and elected officials. 
  • Develop and oversee strategies for digital marketing and content through web design, brand alignment, and an outreach plan to increase visibility, traffic and engagement across digital channels, including presence on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn and other relevant social media. 
  • In collaboration with department team members and campus leaders, including faculty, assess and refresh marketing materials to drive success with established goals. 
  • Direct and contribute to the writing, editing, and design of communication and marketing materials 
  • Provide editorial direction and supervise the design, production, and distribution of all UW-Platteville’s marketing and communication publications and printed material. 
  • Facilitate and oversee market research; working with outside vendors as needed. 
  • Provide expertise and advice to campus leadership regarding internal and external public relations matters. 
  • Create and implement integrated, outcome-based marketing and communications plans 
  • Stay abreast of marketing and communication practices and methodology 
  • Provide leadership in implementing new practices or modifying existing processes and policies to benefit the institution 
  • Prepare and implement a comprehensive media and public relations plan
  • Master's degree with an emphasis in communication, marketing, journalism or a related field and four years of professional communication, marketing, journalism or related experience, OR 
  • Bachelor's degree with an emphasis in communication, marketing, journalism or a related field and at least six years of professional communication, marketing, journalism or related experience, OR
  • Bachelor’s degree in any field of study and at least eight years of professional communication, marketing, journalism or related experience. 
  • Experience in marketing team management; providing leadership to the managerial level across multiple functions. 
  • Experience creating fully integrated marketing campaigns, utilizing Email and Text campaigns, digital marketing, website efficiencies, outdoor media and traditional media with measured results. 
  • Familiarity with social media platforms, digital expertise, Google analytics or another website tracking tool 
  • Experience establishing branding and creative direction 
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills. 
  • Advanced experience in public relations, marketing, or communications capacity.
  • Proven experience working with social media, Google Analytics, Search Engine Optimization (SEO), web accessibility best practices, web content management, and web application testing. 
  • Demonstrated appetite for innovation and eagerness to continue to learn as new media options emerge. 
  • Professionalism appropriate to represent the campus with internal and external audiences, including major industry partners. 
  • Experience working in highly collaborative environments requiring interpersonal communication competence, initiative, listening, and emotional intelligence. 
  • Demonstrated value for the persuasive power of story.
