Since we opened our doors in 1984, the Ronald McDonald House in Milwaukee has been keeping families close by providing more than 40,000 family stays. These families come from 569 Wisconsin communities, all 50 states, and many countries around the world whose children are receiving medical care at Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin or other area hospitals. In 2018 we provided 2,844 family stays. We offer a place to call home at little or no cost, so families can stay together. No one is ever turned away for their inability to pay.

The House is more than just a place to stay. We offer families therapeutic programming, a comprehensive meal program, comfortable community spaces, and so much more. A team of over 550 volunteers and a small dedicated staff are always ready to do whatever it takes to make a family’s stay a little easier. Living in a community, side by side, families form friendships and support one another through difficult times. With our expansion we hope to never turn away another family who needs to stay close to their child.

Job Purpose: Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) is a premiere Wisconsin nonprofit established to keep families together and promote the health and well-being of children. Director of Marketing and Events (Director) is a key leadership position at RMHC and will be responsible for planning, implementing, and/or supervising all aspects of marketing and events at RMHC including social media presence, website, RMHC collateral, major fundraising events, and Third Party events.

Director will have direct supervisory responsibility for marketing and event staff. The priorities of this full-time exempt position are to bring RMHC brand awareness to our community, encourage community participation with Third Party events, and maintain a high quality experience for event attendees.

Director is responsible for creating and executing visually compelling and creative strategic graphic, social media and web content for RMHC and lead in the development and creation of new marketing materials including, but not limited to; collateral, special event materials and other print materials. Director will oversee and manage website content, other social media outlets and support the Board-appointed Development Committee

Job Responsibilities: Work collaboratively with the Director of Philanthropy to create marketing strategies, campaigns, and initiatives to promote RMHC as a charity of choice.

Develop the best creative solutions for graphics and marketing projects

  • Ensure that messages are supportive of and consistent with overall graphic and marketing strategies and RMHC Global best practices 
  • Develop and manage the design and distribution of direct mail campaigns including special event invitations, two annual appeals, and all aspects of print production, collaborating with Director of Philanthropy to ensure that strategy is in alignment with overall fundraising strategy 
  • Produce visually compelling designs, presentations, and collateral materials 
  • Coordinate House collateral and print projects in a timely and professional manner 
  • Review all RMHC collateral to ensure that they conform to House and RMHC Global standards 
  • Responsible for proper documentation, storage, filing and back-up of files 

Web Design and Content Management

  • Leads strategy, design, and updates content for, including House information, images, marketing copy, event information, and photographs for website while maintaining continuity of themes and design layouts 
  • Responsible for functionality of page-navigation links, monitoring and increasing site traffic through SEO analytics 
  • Coordinate with web developer and IT support to problem–solve deficiencies 

Manage and maintain digital marketing tools, including but not limited to: Wordpress, MailChimp, and MobileCause.

Serve as RMHC staff liaison, along with Director of Philanthropy, for the Development Committee, including assisting with any marketing and/or event initiatives

Manage periodic updates of House video and any other videography and photography project needs


  • Bachelor’s degree and 5 - 7 years of marketing and event experience 
  • Excellent graphic design skills. Proven portfolio of representative work and a desire to keep abreast of current trends in design and technology advances 
  • Possess strong written and verbal communication skills 
  • Familiarity with Adobe Master Suite including InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator 
  • Experience with copy editing 
  • Strong leadership skills and ability to successfully manage a team 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and social media tools 
  • Ability to prioritize and balance multiple projects 
  • Detail oriented 
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to work in a flexible and team-oriented environment 
  • Professional demeanor with ability to communicate with a diverse audience of staff, Board of Directors, and other organization stakeholders 
  • Experience with MailChimp and WordPress a plus
