POSITION PURPOSE/MISSION:

Highly visible leadership opportunity, central to developing and executing market and product line strategy. This director position leads a product management, marketing and business analytics team of 5 and a product portfolio totaling $900 million - $1.2 billion. He or she is accountable for creating a highly engaging culture that fosters safety, continuous improvement, teamwork and trust. As a member of the division-wide commercial leadership team, this leader is responsible for developing marketing talent as well as addressing skill gaps across the organization to position Charter Steel for ongoing growth.

Integral parts of the role is to drive team member engagement, customer engagement methodologies and drive change and transformation. The successful director must be able to define future state markets, build organizational consensus on the appropriate structure, methods and processes to scale for growth. The director must provide guidance for executive team and leadership to the commercial team to deliver on organizational growth objectives.

MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Contribute to long term strategic planning and lead execution of prioritized initiatives as a member of the Division Commercial Leadership Team. 
  • Develop and implement Charter Steel product line strategies with revenue, market share and profit metrics. Perform market analysis (through segmentation, VOC, competitive assessment) to identify and prioritize product plans. Work in collaboration with the Commercial Leadership team to create unified, cohesive strategies. 
  • Channel Strategies: Support channel assessment and strategy creation to determine optimal channel structure and partners to support growth objectives. 
  • Products: Manage product mix/volume analysis process and partner with teams to identify and commercialize new products 
  • End Market Growth: Implementation of initiatives to protect and increase market share through value selling, value proposition and strategic relationships. 
  • Manage product price strategy and reporting. 
  • Manage price and market analytics processes. 
  • Collaborate with all Charter Steel business functions to ensure effective communication, execution and alignment. 
  • Manage market and industry presence 
  • Evolve organization structure to support business strategy while managing headcount and associated costs.

RESPONSIBILITIES FOR SUPERVISION:

  • Market Manager, Product Managers, Business Analyst

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS:

  • Reports to: Vice President of Sales & Marketing 
  • Primary internal customers: sales, finance, production and planning professionals within and across divisions.

POSITION CHALLENGES:

  • Create alignment between divisional goals & objectives throughout areas of responsibility.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Business/Economics, or Marketing 
  • Experience with industrial product management, new product introduction, and product development. 
  • Minimum of 15 years of progressively responsible experience in a manufacturing environment, with at least 10 years in product management or marketing management leadership responsibilities 
  • Proven experience in developing organizational vision and implementing successful change management. 
  • Proven success in defining customer needs, translating to product specification and manage cross functional teams through product development processes. 
  • Experience in industrial brand management, digital marketing and promotion

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • MBA, Advanced degree in Applied Economics Engineering preferred 
  • Broad strategic experience researching market size, competition, segmentation of markets and corresponding sales experience (including distribution planning and discounting) 
  • Proven experience in growing a business segment nationally/globally. 
  • Ability to make decisions on marketing strategy development to maximize brand awareness, market penetration and expansion strategies 
  • Solid understanding of margin analysis, cost drivers, and operational capabilities 
  • Experience with solution selling 
  • Ability to foster enterprise-wide customer focus 
  • Experience with implementation of marketing and CRM technologies 
  • Experience with demand planning and product management associated with S&OP.
